Dr. Mark Berenson

Job Titles:
  • Certified Family Physician
  • House Call Physician & Medical Director
Dr. Mark Berenson is a board certified Family Physician and a native of New Orleans. He is known for being a thoughtful and thorough physician and places great value in patient history as the key to diagnosis, using testing only when necessary. Dr. Berenson has an appreciation for homeostasis and the power of self-healing. His practice targets the source of disease while promoting optimal nutrition, behavioral change, and self-motivated methods to allow for the renewal of health. In addition to general acute care, other areas of practice include treatment of opioid dependence, anxiety, and sleep disorders as well as nutritional counseling and second opinions on unrelenting medical mysteries. Dr. Berenson combines vast knowledge of conventional medication with years of experience using complimentary and alternative remedies. Whenever possible, he employs an integrative approach when working with his patients on a care plan. When not providing direct patient care, Dr. Berenson is particularly excited about the future of technology and its application in medicine. Dr. Berenson earned a medical degree from Tulane University in 2003 and completed residency in 2006 at the UCSF Family Medicine Residency in Santa Rosa, California. Immediately after residency, he took on the role as hospitalist and an emergency physician at several hospitals around the bay area and also became a member of the UCSF Clinical Faculty as an instructor of Inpatient Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital. In 2010, he joined Care Practice of San Francisco, providing acute and primary care in both the office and in-home setting. Having worked for years in both the hospital and in-home setting, Dr. Berenson has learned to clearly distinguish the role for a hospital visit and the importance of staying in one's home for medical care. Since the beginning of his medical career in the early 90s, Dr. Berenson has developed a simple perspective when caring for patients. His goal with each encounter is to provide a comfortable and open environment where patients become educated, motivated, and empowered to achieve and maintain their therapeutic goals.
