RE-SET SCHOOL - Key Persons

Scott Smith

In his 45+ years as an educator, Scott has taught, coached, innovated and been an administrator in therapeutic communities, day schools, and boarding schools. Serving in many roles (e.g. Dean of Students, Division Head, Assistant Head of School) Scott has always been keenly attuned to the needs of young people with a gift for connecting with those harder-to-reach students who can be overlooked or discounted. He is also an unassuming and accessible mentor. Countless teachers and staff members have grown and succeeded in their careers as a result of Scott's unique blend of empathy and firmness. Scott's most recent work has had him at the center of the relationship challenges students and adults experience every day in schools and at home. He directed a Student Mediation Program at Great Falls Middle School, facilitated a Boys Group at Turner's Falls High, taught Restorative Practices with a Collaborative Resolutions Group, and supervised Smith College Student Teaching Candidates. He serves on the Bement School Board of Trustees and the Mayor's Task Force on Domestic Violence in Greenfield, MA. "Scott served as my direct supervisor in his role as Assistant Head at The Fessenden School. As Director of Secondary School Counseling, it was my first senior administrative position, and Scott's mentorship during those years was invaluable. One of the greatest listeners I have ever known, Scott's door was always open. His calm, thoughtful demeanor helped me to process numerous professional dilemmas, and his sense of humor always kept me humble."
