Deborah Matthews has had a distinguished career in public education. She has worked successfully with teachers and administrators at all levels and supported gifted education throughout the state. Prior to her work as an Instructional Coach, Deborah led staff development in a number of settings, including reading and differentiated instruction. She has a broad perspective of education in North Carolina having worked in numerous regions. Her work in Wake County offered a unique experience - working directly with 135 principals and 100 AIG teachers and oversight of 25,000 AIG students. Centrally, she managed a staff of 5 and a multimillion dollar budget.
Dr. Audrey Toney has had a distinguished career at all levels of public education. She has provided leadership at both local and state levels through her work in new-program initiatives, gifted educations, professional development, public relations, and technology integration. For more than thirty years, she has served students and teachers in North Carolina.
Keith Beamon has had a distinguished career in public education. He began his career teaching science in both middle school and high school. Most of his career involved positions of leadership. In the last decade, Keith has continued his work in education as a professional development provider for the Central Regional Center in Raleigh, private consulting, program evaluation of STEM programs, and supervision of student teachers in grades K-12 at Appalachian State University.
Knox Hardin completed an exemplary career in public education, June 2011. As a life-long resident of Haywood County, she was a mathematics teacher, lead teacher and central office administrator. During her tenure, Knox was a curriculum leader at the local, community college, and university levels. She is experienced in teacher preparation and development as well as online learning.
Martha Smith has dedicated her life to children, family, and community. An outstanding teacher, administrator and instructional coach, she is an accomplished musician as well. Martha has served in leadership roles at the district, regional, and state level; and she is well-respected by her colleagues in the profession.
Becky Finger has had a distinguished career in public education. She has had extensive training in curriculum and instruction and has studied with nationally-recognized experts. Her service at the local and state levels has been broad and exemplary. A conference presenter for the U.S. Department of Education, the National Council for the Social Studies, and the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies, Becky is widely recognized for her expertise in teaching and learning.
Sue Sherman has had a successful thirty-year career in public education. As a classroom teacher, she served as department chair and mentored new teachers in her school. She has been a consultant for schools that use the block schedule. Additionally, she has had extensive training in literacy. Sue and her husband have two sons, one of whom is a
librarian in Wake County. An accomplished basket weaver, Sue also enjoys machine quilting and reading
