MACQSIMAL

The macQsimal project is part of the European Union's Quantum Flagship and explored how quantum properties can be used to develop sensors with unprecedented precision and sensitivity. The project brought together 14 partners covering the entire technology value chain, from fundamental research to industrial applications. Researchers worked together to design next-generation, highly effective sensors for five key application areas: * magnetic fields - optically-pumped magnetometers or OPMs, * time - miniaturized atomic clocks, * rotation - miniaturized atomic gyroscopes, * electro-magnetic radiation - THz and GHz sensors and imagers and * gas concentration - Rydberg-based gas sensors... A series of chip-scale atomic clock (CSAC) prototypes have been fabricated and tested. This first European CSAC prototype shows excellent performance and has the potential to enter the market in the near future.
