PESTALTO - Key Persons

Dr. Barry Tyler - President

Job Titles:
  • President
I am an humanitarian entrepreneur and my interest is the the reduction of vectored diseases that are an economic and health burden in developing counties through Integrated Vector Mosquito Management (IVMM) and the use of a new proprietory tool, a residually active mosquito larvicide, MOSQUIRON. The world of mosquitoes has been a passion from a preschool age when I woke one morning, covered in bites that my mother explained was caused by mosquitoes. That interest expanded to arthropods and developed through my university years. When I finished my university education with a Ph.D., I called myself an applied entomologist. I chose to work in industry which molded me into a sort of jack of all trades working in technical support, product registrations and sales. So I evolved from a specialist dealing for a short while in applied entomology research to a generalist in pest control. Life came full circle when West Nile virus hit the northeast United States. Reasoning that Ontario and Canada had the mosquito vectors and birds and that WNv would probably be a health problem in my part of the world, I and an associate, Paul Zimmer, formed Pestalto Environmental Health Services Inc. Shortly after, I assumed the the presidency of the the Ontario Vector Control Association and through this association provided information and leadership to various government agencies across Canada to address the pending threat. West Nile virus did develop into a major health concern in Ontario in 2002 and the OVCA continued to provide support. Pestalto became the major vector management service provider as well as a Canadian distributor of mosquito control products and equipment.
