At TPI, we aim to establish a cradle of scholarship, research and innovation - making the transition from fundamental science to applied science... The Photonics Institute is the culmination of intense preparatory work spanning several years between NTU and the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton, along with support from various institutions such as A*STAR, DSO and EDB, in order to establish a world-leading centre in Singapore for photonics technology research... We envision creating a totally different learning environment - to provide students with the opportunity to solve open-ended real life problems together with their friends from different disciplines. The most valuable experience for the students is that they pick up a new hands-on expertise and build something using the new skill - putting the knowledge they learnt in their disciplines into good practical use.
