Alexandra Freedman Smith

Alexandra Freedman Smith has a long history of successfully representing her clients. Alexandra has spent her career fighting on behalf of her clients both in private practice and as an attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union. She is passionate about protecting constitutional rights. A 2002 graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law, Alexandra received the Lewis Sutin Award for Excellence in Advocacy while at UNM. After law school, she joined prominent Albuquerque law firm Freedman, Boyd, Daniels, Hollander, Goldberg & Cline, P.C. While there, she focused on civil rights litigation, federal and state criminal litigation, federal and state civil litigation, class action lawsuits, personal injury litigation, commercial litigation, and forfeiture cases. Alexandra then joined the American Civil Liberties Union New Mexico as a Staff Attorney and became Legal Director in 2014. As the ACLU-NM legal director, Alexandra was responsible for managing the ACLU's legal program throughout the state of New Mexico including litigation, legislative advocacy support, and overseeing the legal staff.
