Alexi (he/him) is a fourth-year PhD student working with Dr. David Lazer. He is interested in Computational Social Science, Social Networks, and Harm Reduction approaches to substance use. Currently, he is part of the COVID States Project, studying the impact of the pandemic on social support and working on validating the project's methodology. In addition, he studies homophily in Twitter follower networks and the spread of fentanyl misinformation (with the Health in Justice Action Lab). Alexi also participates in the COALESCE lab, where he investigates social cohesion through the lens of acquaintanceship networks. He received his bachelor degree in Mathematics from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), and his bachelor degree in Sociology from the University of Barcelona (UB). Before joining Northeastern he worked for two years in the private sector as a data scientist.

Before joining NetSI, she received a B.S. in Humanities and Engineering with Comparative Media Studies and Computer Science from MIT in 2017; after that, she worked in tech for 4 years.

Babak Heydari is an associate professor at the department of mechanical and industrial engineering, and affiliate faculty at the school of public policy and urban affairs. He is currently studying the Science of Success - a network science approach to talent management and career trajectories, and Expeditionary Cyber - emerging network resilience and cognitive overload. His prior research includes developing and implementing software for geospatial systems to understand the relationship between the land and socio-cultural networks. He has traveled to developing nations focusing on how people connect and behave because of the way they see, understand, and internalize the surrounding terrain. He is an infantry officer in the US Army and the director of the USMA Network Science Center.

Prof. Baruch Barzel is a physicist and applied mathematician, director of the Complex Network Dynamics lab at Bar-Ilan University and now visiting the Network Science Institute. His main scientific research areas are statistical physics, complex systems, nonlinear dynamics and network science. Barzel completed his Ph.D. in physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel as a Hoffman Fellow. He then pursued his postdoctoral training at the Center for Complex Network Research at Northeastern University and at the Channing Division of Network Medicine, Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on the dynamic behavior of complex networks, with applications ranging from disease spreading in social networks, to brain, biological systems and infrastructure resilience. Prof. Barzel is the recipient of the Racah Prize (2007), the Rector Prize for Scientific Innovation (2018) and of the Krill Prize on behalf of the Wolf Foundation (2019). Complementing his research activity, Barzel is a frequently invited public lecturer on both science and humanities, presenting a regular segment on the Israel National Radio.
