Austin W. Newton

Austin W. Newton is an exceptional student journalist. He was worked on both college and high school newspapers as a writer and editor fulfilling leadership positions at St. Mary's University and Central Catholic High School (an all-male Marianist institution). He aspires to work in the media field. He dreams of telling the unknown stories of our time using his skills in writing, photography and technology. A second-year student at St. Mary's, Newton is an English-Communication Arts major. He was the news editor for The Rattler, a St. Mary's student publication, and covered school-wide events, investigated issues, and wrote gripping student profiles. He has attended multiple conventions for Associated College Press and the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association with The Rattler. The newspaper has attained numerous awards while Newton was on staff, most recently taking Best-of-Show at the 2010 TIPA convention and 2 nd place nationally under the 4-year-non-weekly category for ACP. He helped design four pages of the 16-page publication and managed paid staff-writers. Born and raised in San Antonio, Newton is a man of great faith to his religion, colleagues, friends and family.
