Alison Ackroyd

Job Titles:

Alison Ackroyd is a lecturer at MidKent College and has worked in the FE sector for over 25 years in London and the South-East. She previously worked in academic research and has kept a strong interest in molecular biology and the crossover to education. Alison currently teaches on the new T level in Science at MidKent College. She creates science content for STEM Learning and actively works with the Post-16 Remote National Science Network to help science practitioners. Alison is also a member of the ASE 11-19 Committee. Alison has recently been awarded a Technical Teaching Fellowship 2022/23 from the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) and Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 to develop T level Science practice and resources.

Annabel Jenner

Annabel Jenner is a chemistry teacher at Talbot Heath School, Bournemouth, UK. Annabel has been teaching GCSE and A-level chemistry since 2006, after spending two years working as a graduate scientist in reagent research and development for a biotechnology company. In the classroom she is particularly interested in motivating pupils to develop their problem-solving skills and helping them to learn to enjoy challenges. A big fan of MOOCs, her wider scientific interests include the history and philosophy of science and all things biochemical.

Becky Kell

Becky is a chemistry teacher at Bolton School Boys' Division, where she also oversees the able, gifted and talented students. She is interested in applying new strategies in the classroom, developing creative approaches to teaching and learning and exploring the dialogue between science and religion. Her background is in inorganic chemistry, where she researched the synthesis, characterisation and application of mixed alkali metal amides and imides as hydrogen storage materials. She has been teaching since 2013.

Faisal Khan

Faisal Khan is an Oxford University graduate with over 20 years of teaching experience as an advanced skills teacher, assistant principal and deputy head. As head of department, he was the award winner of the British Science Week secondary school event of the year. He is currently teaching at an international school in Al Ain, UAE.

Jenny Koenig

Jenny specialises in science and maths education from secondary through to postgraduate level. She is a part-time teacher of science and maths at GCSE and of pharmacology and maths for biologists at university and has been involved in a number of freelance projects including curriculum development and textbook writing. She has a particular interest in the impact of specific learning difficulties and mental health issues on learning in maths and science.

Niki Kaiser

Niki Kaiser is a chemistry teacher and assistant headteacher at Notre Dame High School in Norwich, and director of the Norwich Research School. She was previously seconded to the Education Endowment Foundation as their science content specialist, and in 2019, she won the Schools Education Award from the Royal Society of Chemistry. She is a firm believer that research should always begin with the 'why', but she understands that the 'what' and 'how' are also important, and is always keen to find accessible ways of putting research into practice.

Samantha Atkinson

Shaun Allison

Job Titles:
  • Head of School Improvement at Durrington Multi - Academy Trust
Shaun Allison is head of school improvement at Durrington Multi-Academy Trust. He is also the director of the Durrington Research School - one of only 22 Research Schools in the country. With over 20 years' experience working at coastal comprehensives, Shaun understands the challenges faced by these schools and how to overcome these challenges. His leadership role is centred around supporting teachers and leaders to develop an evidence informed approach to classroom practice, through purposeful and personalised professional learning - so that they can focus on their core purpose. He also writes the successful Classteaching blog and is an author. His most recent books, Perfect teacher led CPD and Making every lesson count (co-authored with Andy Tharby), have both been hugely successful. Shaun is a popular speaker at national conferences and has worked with a number of organisations on a variety of projects, including the DfE. This has involved using an assessment innovation grant to develop a method of ‘assessment without levels' in Key Stage 3 and, more recently, working as a part of their workload solutions consultation.

Susan Wyn Jones

Dr Susan Wyn Jones is a senior lecturer in science education at Bangor University. Susan's background is in teaching chemistry and she currently works in initial teacher education supporting students and local science teachers. Her research interests include science pedagogy, bilingualism and the development of critical thinking skills. She sits on the Royal Society of Chemistry's (RSC) Curriculum and Assessment Task Group and is a fellow of the RSC.
