C-Tow Marine Assistance Ltd. was founded in 1984 by Captain John MacDonald on Bowen Island, just outside of Vancouver, BC. Captain MacDonald saw an opportunity to fill a gap left by a change in the Canadian Coast Guard's policy to assisting only vessels in immediate distress. His solution was to create a marine assistance company for Canadian boaters - like a tow truck on the water - the first of its kind in Canada...
