CHESSWISE

I learned chess at the age of eight and played actively in high school. I won the Ontario High School Championship in 1975 and was third ranked in Canada for under 18. I also won two Hamilton Speed championships in 1979 and 1980 (defeating players like Brian Hartman and Dennis Allen) and other minor tournaments... I won the Alberta Open Chess Championship in 1986 and 1989, defeating Tom O'Donnell who was the number one player in Canada at the time. I reached a rating of 2302 and then coached a boy in Calgary who won the Canadian Cadet Championship (under 16 years old) in 1990. Following this success, we went to the World Under 16 Championship in Singapore.
