One of the main nutrients targeted for the first few months post-Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux En Y Bypass surgery is protein. This is due to increased protein requirements following the surgical intervention; rapid weight loss where body protein stores are mobilised for energy production and inability to consume adequate amounts secondary to physical restrictions. The most practical way to meet protein requirements post-surgery is by using a concentrated protein supplement. At Indi we recommend patients start supplementing protein during the Nourishing Fluid phase (Phase 2 liquids) - gradually introducing (as tolerated) 50% of their total estimated protein requirements. We recommend a Whey Protein Isolate as this product contains all essential amino acids; has a high bioavailability and high percentage concentration of protein.
