Building services engineers today face two major challenges which are at the heart of all work in the built environment. In the UK we are committed to legal targets for net zero by 2050 as part of the global drive to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to a changing climate. We have to achieve this with over 80% of our 2050 building stock already in place and in increasingly urgent need of retrofitting for a zero carbon future. And we have to do all of this whilst continuing to deliver safe and healthy buildings.
