Experience Margaret joined KarimSyah from the Banking sector, where she had been counsel for a number of renowned Indonesian banks. Today she handles primarily banking and other finance matters, including advising the Central Bank on its launch of the National Payment Gateway, but has also been involved with a number of contentious matters including several arbitral disputes, both domestic and international. Prior to joining KarimSyah, she was Credit Compliance and Legal Officer at PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk., a leading state-owned bank in Indonesia. Mirza Karim is recognized as one of Indonesia's leading lawyers in Sharia financing and transaction, having assisted most Indonesian banks in its Sharia transactions. He is also an expert in the resources field, having served as House Counsel for Caltex Pacific for twelve years prior to joining KarimSyah Law Firm. He teaches and writes on oil, gas, mining, and energy matters for a number of educational institutions and professional journals. Mr. Karim attained his legal degree at the University of Indonesia and a Master's at American University in Washington, D.C. A member of the Indonesian Bar, he also sits as arbitrator for the National Shariah Arbitration Board and as Mediator in the National Mediation Centre, and teaches Islamic finance and resources law at various institutions in Jakarta and elsewhere in the archipelago. Her recent transactions include advising on an M&A transaction involving a major reinsurance company advising on Sharia financing schemes, including but not limited to musyarakah and mudharabah agreement configurations, and representing a major insurance company in litigation before the Central Jakarta Court. Prior to joining KarimSyah, she graduated from University of Brawijaya Faculty of Law in 1998, and attained a Master's from Universitas Gadjah Mada in 2014. Admitted to bar in 2008, she is experienced as a former assistant of Mudofir Hadi, a public notary in Jakarta.
