Optical Polymer Research, Inc. (OPRI) is a global polymer research oriented company which has been rejuvenated under new ownership in Mesa Arizona, USA. OPRI was founded in 1985 by Paul D. Schuman, Ph.D. (Fluorine Chemistry). Dr. Schuman continued to be involved in gas permeable contact lens polymer research for over 15 years within his more than 30 years of experience in polymer chemistry. Dr. Schuman utilized his extensive background in fluorine chemistry to develop one of the first and still unique fluorine-containing contact lens polymers. A contemporary of Dr. Schuman, William Peterson, PhD (Organosilicon Chemistry) was also instrumental in historical polymer developments and remains a resource today. OPRI became dormant shortly following Dr. Schuman's passing and remained so until 2013 when the corporation and intellectual properties were resurrected by entrepreneurial industry professionals with 60 years of collective knowledge and experience to re-establish OPRI as a global..
