Alberto Fernández

Alberto Fernández was born in Cádiz in 1982. He obtained the degree of Engineer and Doctor in Computer Science from the University of Granada, Granada, Spain, in 2005 and 2010, respectively. He has been a University Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence since 2017, and teaches at the Faculty of Science and at the E.T.S. of Computer Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of Granada, Spain. He has received the Extraordinary Doctoral Thesis Award 2010, on three occasions the Award for Works of Excellence of the University of Granada, as well as the Lofti Zadeh award for best publication in 2009. His research focuses on topics such as classification in unbalanced domains, learning fuzzy rules, evolutionary algorithms, multi-classification problems with Ensembles and decomposition techniques and Data Science and Big Data applications, in which he has published more than 50 works in international journals ISI, collaborated in more than 20 projects and research contracts and 3 doctoral theses. He is a member of the editorial committee of a number of international journals such as Applied Intelligence, PLOS-One, Progress in Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Computation and Big Data, and a member of the "referees" committee of other ISI journals such as Fuzzy Sets and Systems, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Information Sciences, among others. According to Web of Science of Thomson Reuters his scientific production has received more than 4000 citations, presenting an H index of 27. In 2017 he was identified by Clarivate Analytics as one of the Highly Cited and most influential Scientists in his field.

Professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Francisco Herrera Triguero, born in Jódar (Jaén), is professor and director of the research group ‘Soft Computing and Intelligent Information Systems' at the University of Granada. He is director of the Andalusian Interuniversity Institute in Data Science and Computational Intelligence (DaSCI) at the University of Granada and the University of Jaén. Herrera Triguero studied at the Colegio Virgen de Fátima and at the Instituto de Educación Secundaria Juan López Morillas de Jódar. Subsequently, in Granada he developed studies in Mathematics and continued his doctorate in Artificial Intelligence (1991) in the department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, where he obtained the chair in 2005 and continues to develop his professional task since then. He is currently considered one of the most influential Spanish scientists in the world in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. In 2010 he won the National Computer Science Award, in the Aritmel category, from the Sociedad Científica Informática de España, for his scientific contributions in the areas of Soft Computing and Data Mining, which have a great impact on the scientific community, and for the promotion of research activities in this area in Spain. In 2015, the University of Jaén awarded him the title ‘Natural de Jaén'. The city that saw him born distinguished him in 2017 with the mention ‘Favourite Son and Golden Shield' of Ciudad Jódar. That same year he received the Medal of Andalusia. In 2018 the City of Granada distinguishes it with the recognition ‘Granada, city of science and innovation' to the scientific trajectory. Jesús Alcalá Fernández

Jesús Alcalá was born in Lucena (Córdoba) in 1979. He obtained the degree of Engineer and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Granada in 2002 and 2006 respectively. From 2005 to 2007, he was an Assistant Professor with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Jaén, and since 2007 he is professor with the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Granada (being Associate Professor since 2012), where he is a member of the research group "Soft Computing and Intelligent Information Systems" (SCI2S, TIC-186), the Andalusian Interuniversity Institute in Data Science and Computational Intelligence (DaSCI), and the research center in Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC-UGR). He has received several awards during his research activity, such as the Excellence Award of the University of Granada or the award for the Best Research Works of the Spanish Association for AI. His research interests focus on evolutionary machine learning, data mining, association discovery, bioinformatics, fuzzy logic, explainability of artificial intelligence, and the development of open source software tools. His research activity is supported by a high number of publications in the best journals of the research areas in which he works and by the number of citations they have obtained. He currently has an h-index of 22 and more than 3500 citations according to the Web of Science and an h-index of 27 and more than 6400 citations according to Google Scholar, which shows that these publications have produced a certain impact in the research community. He is or has been a member of the editorial board of international journals such as IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Mathematics, Advances in Fuzzy Systems, and is a member of the "referees" committee of as many ISI journals such as Fuzzy Sets and Systems, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Information Sciences, among others. In addition, Jesús was Chair from 2011 to 2017 and is Vice-Chair from 2017 to present of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Task Force on Fuzzy Systems Software of the Fuzzy Systems Technical Committee. In 2020, he has been included in the list of researchers "World Scientist: World's Top 2% Scientists" published in the prestigious journal Plos Biology, in which the global elite in the world of scientific research is included.

Julián Luengo

Julián Luengo received the M.S. degree in computer science and the Ph.D. from the University of Granada, Granada, Spain, in 2006 and 2011 respectively. He currently acts as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Granada, Spain. His research interests include machine learning and data mining, data preparation in knowledge discovery and data mining, missing values, noisy data, data complexity and how these fields affect Deep Learning. Luís Martínez

Luis Martínez was born in 1970. He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Sciences, both from the University of Granada, Spain, in 1993 and 1999, respectively. Currently, he is Full Professor of Computer Science Department at the University of Jaén. His current research interests are fuzzy decision making, linguistic preference modelling, fuzzy systems, decision support systems, personalized markertin, computing with words and recommender systems. He co-edited eleven journal special issues on fuzzy preference modelling, soft computing, linguistic decision making and fuzzy sets theory and has been main researcher in 14 R&D projects, also has published more than 120 papers in journals indexed by the SCI as well as 33 book chapters and more than 150 contributions in International Conferences related to his areas. He is member of the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology, IEEE. Co-Editor in Chief of the of the International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems and an Associated Editor of the journals IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Information Fusion, the International Journal of Fuzzy Systems, Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Journal of Fuzzy Mathematics and serves as member of the journal Editorial Board of the Journal of Universal Computer Sciences. He received twice the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems Outstanding Paper Award 2008 and 2012 (bestowed in 2011 and 2015 respectively). And he is Visiting Professor in University of Technology Sydney, University of Portsmouth Isambard Kingdom Brunel Fellowship Scheme), in the Wuhan University of Technology (Chutian Scholar), Guest Professor in the Southwest Jiaotong University and Honourable professor in Xihua University both in Chengdu (China). Eventually, he has been appointed as Highly Cited Researcher 2017 and 2018 in Computer Science according to the Web of Science.

Sergio Alonso

Sergio Alonso's research activities started in 2002 while he was preparing his final degree project in Computer Science. After obtaining his M.Sc. Degree in 2003 he obtained a grant to continue his research whilst preparing his Ph.D. In that moment he becomes a member of the "Soft Computing and Intelligent Information Systems" of the University of Granada. After getting his European Ph.D. degree in Computer Science he gets a substitute professor job in the Software Engineering Department of the University of Granada. Some months later he becomes Assistant Professor in the same department. In the following years he improved his possition in the departament until 2012 when he becomes Associate Professor (his current possition). His research activities pivot around two different reasearch lines: The first one is decision making with fuzzy incomplete information where he developed different methods to deal with consensus processes in which uncertainty and lack of information occur. His second line of research is centered in bibliometric indicators to evaluate the research activities of persons, groups and resarch entities taking special attention to the novel (at that time) h-index and its variations. Moreover, his fellows and himself proposed several new indicators that can be used to assess the scientific impact of researchers. Following this line of research he has also taken attention to the evaluation of academic and libraries web sites to ensure their quality. His research activities are supported by his high number of publications in high quality research journals and the cites they got. Currently he has a h-index of 21 and has received more than 3400 cites according to web of science, which shows that his research has had some impact in the scientific comunity. He has published 11 higly cited papers according to the Essential Science Indicators (Thomson Reuters) and since November 2018 he is a "Highly Cited Researcher" (above 1% top cited scientist) in the Croos-Field category according to Clarivative Analytics. Apart from his journal contributions he has published more than 50 papers in specialized conferences and more than 10 book chapters. Finally, he has also worked in the practical application of his research by developing different computer tools, web applications and mobile ones in particular domains: for example in aerial transport, e-libraries, e-health, e-commerce and so on as well as visual tools to better represent scientific impact indicators.

Óscar Cordón García

ÓSCAR CORDÓN (Fellow, IEEE) was the Founder and a Leader of the Virtual Learning Center (2001-05) and the Vice President of Digital University (2015-19) with the University of Granada (UGR). He was one of the Founding Researchers with the European Centre for Soft Computing (2006-11), being contracted as Distinguished Affiliated Researcher until December 2015. He is currently a Professor with the UGR. He has been, for >25 years, an internationally recognized contributor to Research and Development Programs in fundamentals and real-world applications of computational intelligence. He has published >380 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including a research book on Genetic Fuzzy Systems (with >1400 citations in Google Scholar) and 112 JCR-SCI-indexed journal papers (68 in Q1 and 38 in D1), advised 19 Ph.D. dissertations, and coordinated 37 research projects and contracts (with an overall amount of >9M ). From May 2021, his publications had received 5422 citations (H-index=39), being included in the 1% of most-cited researchers in the world (source: Web of Science), with 14687 citations and H-index=58 in Google Scholar. He also has a granted international patent on an intelligent system for forensic identification commercialized in Mexico and South Africa. He received the UGR Young Researcher Career Award in 2004, the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Outstanding Early Career Award in 2011 (the first such award conferred), the IFSA Award for Outstanding Applications of Fuzzy Technology in 2011, the National Award on Computer Science ARITMEL by the Spanish Computer Science Scientific Society in 2014, the IFSA Fellowship in 2019, and the Recognition of the Spanish AI Association (AEPIA) for his Scientific Career and the Promotion of AI. He is currently or was Associate Editor of 19 international journals. He was a member of the High-Level Expert Group that developed the Spanish R+D Strategy for Artificial Intelligence by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, 2018-19. He was recognized as an Outstanding Associate Editor of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON FUZZY SYSTEMS in 2008 and of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON EVOLUTIONARY COMPUTATION in 2019. Since 2004, he has taken many different representative positions with EUSFLAT and the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
