Dr. Kariyawasam is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCA). He is a Member of the Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) Australia, a Member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE) in the USA, and a Fellow of the Society of Certified Management Accountants Sri Lanka (FCMA). He is also a Senior Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (SAT). He obtained Master of Business in Accounting from RMIT University in Australia, specialized in Forensic Accounting.
Dr. Kariyawasam earned his Doctor of Business Administration degree from the University of Newcastle, Australia. He has an exquisite repertoire by holding Chairman Positions in both public and private sector organizations such as Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Sri Lanka, Insurance Board of Sri Lanka (IBSL), Bank of Ceylon (BOC), Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka PLC (MBSL), Industrial Development Board (IDB) and Lanka Hospitals PLC as the Deputy Chairman. Apart from the highly decorated professional career he use to share his academic excellence at Sri Jayawardanapura University, Center for Banking Studies CBSL, National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) etc.
