Celina Proffen is currently working at the Chair of Macroeconomics and Development and pursues empirical projects based on large administrative data sets, as well as alternative data sources such as satellite and mobile phone data.
Celina Proffen (1996) completed her undergraduate studies in Economics (B.Sc.) at the University of Bonn. Subsequently, she visited the University of California, Berkeley, where she attended courses from the Economics Ph.D. track and worked with high-frequency financial markets data. After completing internships at the German Development Bank (KfW) and McKinsey, she joined the Ph.D. in Economics track of the Graduate School of Economics Finance and Management (GSEFM) at Goethe University.
In her free time Celina volunteers for a local NGO, practices martial arts, and enjoys playing (long) board games with her friends.
Benjamin Clapham conducts empirical research at the intersection of finance and information systems. His work has been presented at various international conferences and has been published in leading international journals such as Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS), Journal of Information Technology (JIT), Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Financial Research (JFR), Financial Analysts Journal, and Information Systems Frontiers (ISF).
After having studied economics and business administration, Benjamin successfully completed his doctoral studies in finance and information systems at Goethe University Frankfurt in November 2019. In his dissertation, he analyzed the integrity and efficiency of electronic securities markets. Since then, he has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of e-Finance and efl - the Data Science Institute. His research interests are empirical financial market research, financial market regulation, and the automated detection of manipulation and misbehavior in financial markets. He has been awarded with several academic awards, e.g., the dissertation award of the Frankfurt Institute for Risk Management and Regulation and the 2020 Best Paper Award of the Journal of the Association for Information Systems.

Since March 2018, Benjamin M. Abdel-Karim is a research assistant of Prof. Dr. Oliver Hinz at the Chair of Information Systems and Information Management. Benjamin M. Abdel-Karim has gained practical experience through his training as a bank employe and as an employe in banks, such as Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management.
Benjamin M. Abdel-Karim studied business administration and computer science at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (M.Sc.). Prior to his master's degree, he completed his bachelor's degree in business administration and computer science (B.Sc.) at the University of Bremen. Dr. Florian Glaser studied business administration at the University of Cologne and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, majoring in Statistics/Econometrics, Finance, and Supply Chain Management. In his diploma thesis, Mr. Glaser designed and implemented a genetic algorithm to optimize train operator shifts. In parallel he worked several years for an Asset Management company where he implemented various types of information systems for the portfolio management and the marketing department.
While pursuing his PhD as a research assistant at the chair of e-Finance, Mr. Glaser also worked for a software company where he developed Blockchain prototypes for large financial institutions and internally analyzed the (emergent) properties of innovative Blockchain-based systems.
Subsequently, he took a position as research group leader at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) where he focused on the application of machine learning techniques and agent-based modeling in the context of financial markets and user behavior.
Mr. Glaser successfully completed his doctoral thesis on the topic "Decentralized Digital Platforms" and in parallel obtained a master's degree in Practical Computer Science.
Today, Mr. Glaser is working as Chief Technology Officer at ESG Screen17 GmbH.

Jens Lausen worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the efl and was part of the "Data Science for Financial Services" research group. In his academic work, he focused on empirical research in financial markets and economic policy. Besides his research, he was one of the instructors of the efl Data Science courses.
Since February 2017, Jens Lausen is a research associate at the chair of e-Finance and in the research area "Data Science for Financial Services" of the efl. Within his research, he focuses on empirical research in the areas of market microstructure, regulatory impact analysis, and decision support systems in finance and financial regulation using structured and unstructured data.
Jens Lausen received a Bachelor's degree in Management and Economics and a Master's degree in Management from Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. He completed his Master's degree with a major in finance and graduated best of his year. During his studies he worked as tutor at the chairs of Financial Economics (Prof. Isabel Schnabel) and Banking (Prof. Dietmar Leisen) of Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz and studied a semester abroad at the University of Agder in Norway. Furthermore, working at R+V Insurance and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Jens Lausen gained professional experience in the fields of Business Analytics, Management Accounting, and Asset Management Regulation. In October 2021, he successfully completed his doctoral studies in finance and information systems. In his dissertation he dealt with the topics of "Market Organization and Investor Protection in Digital Financial Markets".

From September 2016 until February 2022, Konstantin worked as a research assistant and postdoctoral researcher at the chair of Prof. Andreas Hackethal and started working at the efl as a research assistant in April 2018. His research centers around topics in the area of household finance particularly focusing on the impact of financial innovation (FinTech) on investor behavior and how changes in households' stock market wealth affect their consumption. He was a visiting Ph.D. student at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business in 2019. Konstantin received his Master in Finance&Accounting at Goethe University Frankfurt. During his studies Konstantin worked as a student assistant at the chair of Prof. Hackethal and gained professional experience in the fields of Asset Management and Trading while working at Deutsche Bank.
He received his PhD in March 2021 and works as Product Manager Brokerage at ING today.

Lukas Jürgensmeier studied business administration at the University of Augsburg (B.Sc.) and Goethe University (M.Sc.), both with a quantitative focus on data science, analytics, and econometrics. Since April 2017 he is a research assistant at the Chair of Electronic Commerce (Prof. Skiera).
In his research, Lukas focuses on the interface between data science and marketing - quantitative marketing. Using econometric methods, machine learning, and large data sets, he asks how visibility in search results influences actors' success on digital platforms such as Amazon and Google and if this comes with implications for fair competition.
Since its founding in 2018, Lukas is active in the non-profit initiative TechAcademy e.V. and currently leads the association with over 20 student volunteers. Together with other students, he designed a didactic concept that enables around 80 students each semester to learn basic or advanced programming skills in Data Science with R or Python and Web Development. For this work in digitization education, together with TechAcademy e.V., Lukas received the award "Student of the Year 2021", jointly awarded by the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers and the German National Association for Student Affairs.
Anjana Cordes joined the efl - the Data Science Institute as a research assistant in October 2022.
Anjana Cordes studied Business and Economics with a focus on management at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. She previously spent a semester at the Morningside College in America, where she focused on Mathematics and Computer Science.
As part of her bachelor's seminar, she studied the digital transformation and standardization capabilities of the Internet of Things. Her bachelor thesis covered the topic of energy data disaggregation based on Machine Learning and explored different implementations of Non-Intrusive Load-Monitoring.
In September 2022, Anjana Cordes completed her master's degree in Information Systems (M. Sc.). She wrote her master's thesis on "Predictive Maintenance in a Smart Home setting: Generating a failure dataset". The master's thesis dealt with the generation of a synthetic dataset and also investigated the extent to which Predictive Maintenance can be applied in the Smart Home setting.
Parallel to her studies, she worked at the chair of Prof. Dr. Oliver Hinz since December 2018. During this time, she supported the FORESIGHT project among others.

Niklas Trimpe completed his Bachelor's degree in Business Informatics as part of a dual study program in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn. After obtaining his Bachelor's degree, he transferred to Goethe University Frankfurt, where he also completed his Master's degree in Business Informatics. During his studies, Niklas Trimpe was supported by the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship and gained practical experience in in-house consulting at DB Systel, as well as at the management consultancy d-fine in the field of applied AI.

Andreas is a Professor of Finance at Goethe University in Frankfurt. He joined Goethe's Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in 2008. He served as Dean from 2011 to 2015 and is now serving as Dean of Studies. His empirical research is on individual investment behavior, the role of financial advice and on financial innovations. It was published in the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies and the Review of Finance. He acts as the head of the research area "household finance" at Goethe's SAFE research center and as academic director of the University's startup center. Prof. Dr. Bernd Skiera has held the Chair of Electronic Commerce at the Faculty of Economics and Business at Goethe-University Frankfurt since 1999. His research interests are Marketing Analytics, Data-driven marketing, iPaaS, Electronic Commerce, Online Advertising, SalesTech, MarTech, Marketing Automation, and Consumer Privacy. In 2019, he received an ERC Advanced Grant to research the economic consequence of more consumer privacy on the Internet.
Bernd Skiera was among the first 200 employees at SAP and worked as an SAP Freelancer before working on his doctoral studies and habilitation at the University of Kiel (Germany). In 1999, Goethe-University Frankfurt appointed him as the first Chaired Professor of Electronic Commerce in Germany. 12 of his doctoral students are tenured professors in Germany, the UK, Austria, and Spain. Another 5 of his doctoral students are on tenure-track positions in Germany, the US, the UK, and China.
His publications appeared in journals such as Management Science, Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing Research, and Journal of Marketing. He is the winner of the 2018 winner of Sheth Foundation/Journal of Marketing Award for the long-term contribution of the paper: Hinz, Oliver / Skiera, Bernd / Barrot, Christian / Becker, Jan (2011), "An Empirical Comparison of Seeding Strategies for Viral Marketing," Journal of Marketing, 75 (November), 55-71. He also was a winner and a three-time runner-up of the MSI/H. Paul Root Award of the Marketing Science Institute and the American Marketing Association.
In its most recent ranking (2014) of all German-speaking business professors (more than 2,000 researchers), Handelsblatt ranked him first regarding his research productivity of the last five years. The American Marketing Association (AMA) consistently considers him in their worldwide ranking of authors according to the number of publications in Journal of Marketing and Journal of Marketing Research among the Top 30 researchers worldwide (e.g., rank 20 in 2020, rank 23 in 2019, rank 13 in 2016, and rank 26 in 2014).
Bernd Skiera is also a co-founder of Marini Systems (www.marini.de), which provides Enterprise Data Integration solutions.
On top he is also a (part-time) Professorial Research Fellow at Deakin University (Australia) and was a visiting professor/fellow at Cambridge University (UK), New York University, Duke, Stanford, UCLA (USA), and University of Technology at Sydney and University of New South Wales (Australia).

Oliver Hinz is Professor of Information Systems and Information Management. His main topics at efl - the Data Science Institute are predictive analytics, applied machine learning, assistance systems, social networks and digital markets. According to Handelsblatt (2014) and WirtschaftsWoche (2019), Oliver Hinz is currently one of the 30 strongest researchers in the field of business administration.
Oliver Hinz (1974) studied at the TU Darmstadt Business Administration and Information Systems with main focus on Marketing, Software Engineering and Computer Graphics. After receiving his diploma (equiv. master degree) he worked several years for the Dresdner Bank as a consultant for business logic.
Oliver worked as a Research Assistant at the Chair of Electronic Commerce (2004-2007) and received his Ph.D. in October 2007. He has been awarded with the dissertation prize of the Alcatel-Lucent-Stiftung 2008, the Erich-Gutenberg-Prize 2008 and the science prize "Retailing 2009" of the EHI Retail Institute. He is also the winner of the honorable Schmalenbach prize for young researchers in 2008, the ECIS Ciborra Award, the Science Prize 2017 and the Sheth Foundation/Journal of Marketing Award 2018 for his Long-Term Impact on research in this area.
He supported the E-Finance Lab as Assistant Professor for E-Finance & Electronic Markets from 2008 to 2011 and joined the TU Darmstadt in April 2011 and headed the Chair of Information Systems | Electronic Markets. Oliver is Chair of Information Systems and Information Management at Goethe University since September 2017.
Oliver was visiting scholar at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, Robert H. Smith School of Business , University of Maryland, at the Center for Collective Intelligence, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at Microsoft Research New York.
