LEEK LAB - Key Persons

Andrew Patterson

Andrew completed his DPhil in 2018 on "Control of Prototype Quantum Processors Based on Coaxial Transmon Qubits". Andrew now works as a Quantum Engineer at Oxford Quantum Circuits.

Ani Nersisyan

Ani completed her DPhil in 2016 on "Carbon nanotubes In DC and microwave superconducting circuits". Ani now works at Rigetti Computing in the USA.

Brian Vlastakis

Brian completed his PhD in superconducting circuits in 2015 at Yale University under the supervision of Prof. Robert Schoelkopf, investigating the application of microwave quantum optics for information processing. Through 2017, Brian was a research scientist at IBM-Q exploring scaling solutions of early commercial quantum computers. Brian started in December 2017 as a PDRA in the Leek Lab and currently studies symmetry protection of quantum states using novel superconducting circuit designs. Starting in May 2019, Brian is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow.

Einar Magnusson

Einar competed his DPhil in 2016 on "High-spin impurities and surface acoustic waves in piezoelectric crystals for spin-lattice coupling".

Giovanna Tancredi

Giovanna carried out her PhD at Royal Holloway, University of London, on superconducting tunable resonators. After 5 years as a research fellow at Royal Holloway, Giovanna joined us as our first PDRA in 2014 and spent 4 years working on quantum computing and circuit QED physics. Giovanna is now a senior researcher at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden.

Joseph Rahamim

Joseph defended his DPhil in 2019 on "Development of a Scalable Coaxial Architecture for Superconducting Quantum Computing". Joseph now works as a Quantum Engineer at Oxford Quantum Circuits.

Martina Esposito

After completing a PhD in 2016 at the University of Trieste in Italy working on the application of quantum optics to time-resolved spectroscopy in quantum materials, Martina spent 2.5 years as a PDRA in the Leek Lab 2017-2019. Martina is now a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow in the group of Nicholas Roch at CNRS Grenoble.

Matthias Mergenthaler

Matthias completed his DPhil in 2018 on "Hybrid circuit QED with spin ensembles and carbon-nanotube-based superconducting qubits". Matthias now works at IBM Research in Switzerland.

Peter Leek

Peter obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2006, working with Prof. Charles Smith on combining surface acoustic waves with carbon nanotubes to build mesoscopic charge pumps. Peter then went on to work as a PDRA with Prof. Andreas Wallraff at ETH Zurich, on superconducting quantum circuits and circuit quantum electrodynamics between 2006-2010. Peter subsequently worked with Prof. Klaus Ensslin between 2010-2011, on the realisation of circuit QED with semiconductor quantum dots, in collaboration with the Wallraff group. In 2012 Peter set up a superconducting circuit research activity at the University of Oxford, funded by EPSRC career acceleration and ERC career integration grants. Since 2012, Peterʼs group have worked on a range of hybrid and superconducting circuit QED research (see publications, research). In 2017 Peter founded the spin-out company Oxford Quantum Circuits which is working on commercialising quantum computers that harness innovations from the group's research.

Riccardo Manenti

Riccardo completed his DPhil in 2017 on "Circuit quantum acoustodynamics with surface acoustic waves". Riccardo now works at Rigetti Computing in the USA.

Salha Jebari

After completing a PhD in 2017 at CEA Grenoble (France), investigating near-quantum-limited amplification using inelastic Cooper-pair tunnelling, Salha spent 1.5 years as a PDRA in the Leek Lab 2018-2019, working on improving multi-qubit device fabrication and developing novel multi-qubit circuit designs.
