Captain Joseph Thomas is a marine professional with 18 plus years of experience spent in the various disciplines of the marine industry. As a members of SAMS® (The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors®) Captain Thomas has trained with industry leading surveyors. This combined with his years of experience in the field will give you confidence that your survey will be thorough and accurate. Captain Thomas has acted as vessel Master for numerous USCG safety and condition inspections in the passenger vessel industry. He has also been responsible for construction and oversight of recommended repairs and improvements on passenger carrying vessels. His extensive experience in wooden boat restoration in accordance with USCG standards and the Code of Federal Regulations gives him a unique grasp on vessel construction and safety requirements . Captain Thomas has spent many years in the marine towing and salvage industry as well as the commercial shipping industry. Working with many tug boat and ship companies to facilitate transport of crew and equipment to vessels where safety is paramount. Captain Thomas has acted as salvage master on numerous salvage operations ranging from fifteen foot tenders to sixty plus foot vessels in distress. During the course of salvage operations, he has often taken the role of salvage diver. While in this industry he has been responsible for maintenance, repair and construction of towing vessels, coordination with outside vendors to ensure safe operation of all vessels in the fleet and overseeing the restoration and refit of numerous vessels. Captain Thomas attended the Landing School's Marine Surveying Course in Arundel Maine training with marine industry professionals and experienced surveyors where he achieved an American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) certification in Marine Systems. As a professional in the Marine industry, Captain Thomas continues to educate himself with industry standards and subscribe to various industry periodicals to stay on the forefront of the industry.
