Adam J. Coates - Chief Legal Officer, VP

Adam Coates leads BSA's domestic and international compliance solutions programs, including end-user copyright enforcement, educational programs to promote software license compliance and respect for intellectual property, and BSA's efforts to prevent the spread of unlicensed and malware-infected software on the Internet. As general counsel, Coates oversees BSA's and its affiliates' worldwide legal, corporate, and compliance affairs. Previously at BSA, Coates served as deputy general counsel and helped drive significant operational improvements in BSA's compliance & enforcement programs worldwide. Prior to joining BSA in 2011, Coates was a litigator in the Washington, DC office of O'Melveny & Myers LLP, an internationally prominent law firm, representing and counseling clients around the world on a diverse array of litigation, enforcement, and regulatory compliance matters. Coates holds both a law degree and a bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania and is admitted to the bars of the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is based in BSA's Washington, DC office.

Antonio Eduardo Mendes Da Silva

Antonio Eduardo Mendes da Silva, known in the market as Pitanga, is BSA's Country Manager for Brazil, where he supports BSA's end-user copyright enforcement, educational programs to promote software license compliance and respect for intellectual property, works with members to develop BSA's policy and government affairs initiatives on a range of regulatory and legislative issues including privacy, cybersecurity, copyright, and digital trade. Pitanga has more than 28 years' experience in the software market and worked for many years at Microsoft and Autodesk. He is also a board of advisors' member of ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies). He holds a degree in electronic engineering from the São Paulo State University, a postgraduate degree in marketing from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and an MBA from Fundação Dom Cabral. He also concluded a policy course, Strategy Beyond Markets (Building Reputation and Competitive Advantage), at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Antonio Eduardo Mendes Da Silva leads BSA's programs in Brazil.

Hayati Yahaya

Hayati Yahaya leads BSA's License Compliance Services (LCS) business in the Asia-Pacific region. She manages relationships with BSA's members by understanding their needs and developing business solutions to acquire new customers and drive revenue growth. Yahaya oversees the entire LCS progression in the APAC region, from negotiating contracts to establishing plans to operation implementation and execution. Yahaya is well seasoned on license compliance services and anti-piracy solutions. Through her knowledge and network with IP protection professionals, she generates high revenue in legalization throughout APAC, particularly in China, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and India. Before joining BSA, Yahaya served as Country Manager for the Motion Picture Association of America ("MPAA") in Malaysia from 1998 to 2008, where worked to protect Hollywood studios' intellectual property rights and helped drive their business growth in Malaysia. Prior to joining the MPAA, she was an attorney for Shearn Delamore & Co, a renowned legal firm in Malaysia, where she practiced intellectual property law specializing in copyrights and trademarks. Yahaya holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with Honors from International Islamic University. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1996.

Javier Cervantes

Javier Cervantes leads BSA's data analytics strategies by providing data solutions that enable BSA's enforcement programs run efficiently. He focuses on developing and maintaining analytics across the organization to help drive business decisions. Cervantes also manages the day-to-day operations of BSA's Internet enforcement program, which aims to reduce the distribution of unlicensed software online. His previous experiences include conducting empirical research on anti-money laundering, analyzing taxpayer's data to increase tax debt collection, and providing technical assistance to financial rural institutions to deliver financial services to underserved populations. Cervantes received his MS in Applied Economics from the Johns Hopkins University, and his MA in Economic Analysis from the Pompeu Fabra University. He also earned a BS in Economics by the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He is based in BSA's Washington, DC office.

Jesse K. Martin

Jesse K. Martin leads BSA's compliance solutions efforts in the Americas and the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions by managing BSA's internal legal affairs team, as well as its outside enforcement counsel. In her role, Martin helps develop and drive awareness campaigns and educational activities throughout each region. Before joining BSA, Martin spent five years in the Washington, DC, office of Troutman Sanders LLP, serving as BSA's outside enforcement counsel and litigating insurance coverage disputes. Martin holds a law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and a bachelor's degree from Sweet Briar College. She is admitted to the bars of the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Martin is based in BSA's Washington, DC, office.

Kenji Tomizawa

Kenji Tomizawa leads BSA's Compliance Solutions activities in Japan, including end-user copyright enforcement, programs to promote software license compliance, and efforts to raise awareness of the importance of software asset management. Prior to joining BSA, Tomizawa served as the Legal Director for DiDi Mobility Japan Corp. and DiDi Food Japan Corp. Prior to that time, he served as Director, Legal Affairs-Asia Pacific Japan at Ansys and BEA Systems, where he represented these companies on BSA committees in Japan. Additionally, he worked in legal and other capacities at SECOM. Tomizawa earned an LL.M. from the Beasley School of Law at Temple University, Japan Campus, as well as a Master of Laws (Public Law major) and a Bachelor of Laws from Nihon University. He is a member of several legal academic/professional societies and associations, including The Criminal Law Society of Japan, The Japan Association of Economic Law, The Law and Computers Association of Japan, The Japanese Association of Sociological Criminology, and The Japanese Association of Victimology.

Nicolas Jaramillo

Nicolas Jaramillo oversees License Compliance Services' global operations. He works strategically to achieve significant customer conversion rates and drive revenue to BSA members in markets worldwide. Additionally, Jaramillo develops tailored compliance solutions for members using customized processes and tools, which convert current unlicensed end users into BSA members' clients. Part of Jaramillo's management experience includes forging suitable, tactical partnerships with stakeholders while leading projects in system integration, process improvement, analytics, and predictive modeling. He collaborates closely with vendors and BSA employees to deploy public relations campaigns, build IT tools and solve day-to-day challenges to optimize strategies for License Compliance Services and achieve the desired results in growth, performance, and profitability for members. These collaborations include helping select and manage the progress of campaigns in different markets to achieve desired results. Jaramillo came to BSA from Accenture, where, as management consulting manager he worked on several government contracts for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Postal Service. In this role, he provided business process improvement and analytics support to implement data-driven decision making and predictive modeling to drive results for customers. Jaramillo holds a Bachelor of Science in integrated science and technology from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia as well as an ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt and PMP certification.

Tarun Sawney

Tarun Sawney has been driving all compliance and enforcement activities in Asia-Pacific (APAC) for BSA since 2001. He has developed a unique expertise in this field and built lasting working relationships with various enforcement and regulatory bodies in APAC. In close consultation with BSA members, he has developed customized compliance solutions on a country-by-country basis across APAC. He has negotiated over five hundred successful settlements with end-user companies that have infringed the use of BSA members' software, and he has helped drive considerable value to the members. Prior to joining BSA, Sawney served as the deputy director of APAC for the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), where he represented leading Hollywood studios including Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount and MGM in the anti-piracy space. Sawney holds a Bachelor of Social Science in politics from the University of Hong Kong. He is fluent in Hindi and conversant in Cantonese. Sawney is based in the BSA APAC Regional Office in Singapore.
