The metasearch engine eTools.ch has no own index or database - instead the information is retrieved from several data sources simultaneously (federated search, search several search engines at once)... As the following illustration shows, a data source can be, among others, a traditional web search engine, a web service or a database... eTools.ch is based on EnterpriseMetasearch, a federated search solution that queries distributed data sources simultaneously (HTTP, JDBC, SOAP, LDAP, XML, etc.).
