HIMALAYAN LEAKY - Key Persons

Bino Smith

Job Titles:
  • Advisor / Auckland, New Zealand
Bino first visited Nepal with his partner Clare in 2016. Whilst there, he fell in love with the place and the people. Bino is a successful artist (see artwork here) and draws inspiration from his strong indigenous Maori heritage. His art reflects the values his culture upholds, and the Maori way of seeing the world (holistically). This has created a close connection for Bino to the indigenous Nepali. So he works closely with Clare and Rabindra to support their efforts for change in Nepal. Bino can relate to the struggles of others as a founding member of the Dunedin Mongrel Mob. He has seen a lot of the suffering his people have been through, and continue to experience, and he now works to inspire others to value their worth and achieve success.

Clare McCall

Job Titles:
  • Founder / Auckland, New Zealand
Clare was drawn to Nepal in 1999 for the majestic mountains but returned again and again for the people. In 2010 she completed a charity trek to Everest Base Camp where she met a group of people, one of them being Rabindra Tamang. In January 2015 she planned to return to Nepal to do a trek to the Manaslu region with Rabindra. Following the devastating April 2015 earthquake she worked together with Rabindra and others to provide immediate support and shelter for earthquake victims. During this time, Rabindra and Clare realised they shared the same vision of kindness and support for all and have been working together since. The Himalayan Leaky Foundation was founded after the sudden death of Clare's father, John "Leaky" McCall in 2016 and her commitment to provide ongoing support to Nepali in memory of her beloved Dad. Clare is a very proud New Zealander and a successful business owner. She works with her Rotary Westhaven members to bring about positive change for those in New Zealand and Nepal and around the world.
