I have always had a passion for helping animals.
The human-animal bond is so fascinating and the ability to give a voice to something that cannot speak for itself is why I do this job. I love all animals but have a special place in my heart for dogs. They have so many different purposes and occupations that they serve to help people. The fact that each dog has its own unique personality is wonderful, and I love meeting new pets every day. My veterinary interests are emergency cases, dentistry, and preventative medicine. I love to educate clients and allow them to be the advocate for their pets.
I've always been amazed by animals and the way they can grow a connection with humans.
Dr. Lydia Clegg is originally from Tampa, Florida, and will soon be living in Holly Springs, NC!
She has a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Florida and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at NC State University.
Dr. Clegg has worked in a small animal practice (dogs & cats exclusively) for around 5 years now! She started as a kennel assistant for a year, then a vet assistant for the remainder of her time there. She has special interest in preventative medicine, exotic animal medicine, and performing surgery.
She has a Bengal cat named Lily, better known as Bean, and a ball python named Bellatrix LeSnake.
I attribute my love and respect for animals to growing up on a family-run dairy farm which was run solely by my parents and 4 brothers.
I was totally inspired in choosing a career in veterinary medicine after watching our large animal veterinarian come out to the farm to provide not only medical treatments but also preventative herd health care. I knew that one day I wanted to help provide medical care for ill pets that are depending on us to bring them to better health.
Here at Seventy-First Animal Hospital, I treat cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and other exotic pets. I have a special interest in laser surgery, dentistry, and senior health care.
Danny, my husband, and I share our home with our pets, a standard poodle named Coco, an American Spaniel named Neeses, and a toy poodle named Remi. We also have a cat, Jasmine, and a Moluccan Cockatoo named Peaches. I love spending time in my garden and trail riding.
