Mark Garrity is a certified urban planner with 30 years of professional, worldwide experience in executive leadership and project management in urban planning, transportation planning, transit operations, environmental analysis and design. Mark recently helped the City and County of Honolulu prepare to operate and maintain the new rail transit system now under construction, supported the establishment of a new rail transit operations and maintenance program, and helped procure a potential contract to finish construction, operate and maintain the system. Mark also assisted the City during negotiations of a major amendment to the 13 year, $1bn rail operations and maintenance contract. Mark Garrity's career includes 30 years of support to communities around the world, planning, designing, and operating transportation and urban planning solutions. Mark has spent half his career working directly for government agencies, at the local, regional or State level. The other half has been with private engineering or planning firms. Mark helped the City and County of Honolulu set up a program to operate and maintain the USA's first automated urban rail transit system. He also helped Honolulu update their street right-of-way planning and design standards, and updated their development review procedures to ensure consistency with best practices and principles of Complete Streets. In Japan, Mark provided research support for a global study of how different countries fund and promote roadway transportation infrastructure projects, and and is currently supporting the planning of an ocean-based urban development project.
