4G IN COMMUNICATIONS - Key Persons

Adam Penny

I first became involved in computers whilst at university. After graduation, I spent time working at Norwich Union where I was involved in Data Support - this was my first professional IT experience. I came to France in 2005 and I became involved in repairing computers for people organically and it became such a regular occurrence that I started offering it as a service! As time has passed and internet technology has progressed, people in rural areas on very long copper telephone lines were left behind their counterparts in urban areas. I became aware of the fact that the mobile 4G network was actually outperforming what was available via copper cables so, after some experimentation, it became apparent that, in many circumstances, a household could enjoy far superior internet over 4G than on VDSL/ADSL, WiMax, or satellite. In some cases, I've had people enjoying connection speeds in excess of 50mbps over ranges of around15 kilometres, where previously the customers had been struggling on 0.5-2mbps. That's assuming their service was working at all! As a result, I started providing services for people to obtain internet where they wouldn't otherwise be able to, even including designated white zones (a zone where the French Telecoms regulator deems there's no internet capability other than by satellite). I have been doing this while continuing to IT troubleshoot in terms of maintaining people's computer networks and building Local Area Networks to extend wifi coverage in people's properties.
