Andrea Chan joined Vikes Athletics & Recreation in September 2015 as the Accounting Clerk.
Prior to joining our team, Andrea held a similar accounting position with the UVic Bookstore since 2005. She brings a breadth of experience with the UVic financial systems and her previous role sets her up well for her position with us.
Andrea is a UVic alum with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Outside of work, her hands are full chasing after her active and energetic toddler.

Brittany Waters enters her ninth year as the head coach of the Vikes women's rugby program in 2023-24. Waters previously served as an assistant coach for the Vikes prior to being elevated to head coach ahead of the 2015 season.
The Vikes have medalled each year at the Canada West Championships under Waters' watch, bringing home gold in 2015, silver in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2022, and bronze in 2019 (no competition in 2021 due to COVID-19).
Returning to the national stage in a coaching capacity, Waters has been an assistant coach with Rugby Canada's senior 7s team since November 2021.
Waters was a member of the Rugby Canada women's national 15s and 7s teams from 2008-17 and was a member of the centralized 7s program. She participated in two 7s World Cups (2009, 2013), earning a silver medal in 2013 in Moscow. Waters has also participated in two 15s World Cup tournaments, most recently winning a silver medal at the World Cup in Paris. Waters retired in December 2017 from the national 15s team after representing Canada at the World Cup in Ireland. In the spring of 2021, Waters, along with the rest of her National Senior Women's Rugby 7s team got inducted into the Rugby Canada Hall of Fame following their historic 2013 season.?

Diane Schuetze enters her third season as the lead assistant coach for the Vikes women's basketball program in 2023-24. Schuetze joined Carrie Watts' staff prior to the 2021-22 season.

Dr. Nick Clarke began his role as Director, Varsity Performance Sport Sept. 1, 2020.
Clarke's role was then-newly created and one of a number of important initiatives outlined earlier this year by Vikes Athletics and Recreation.
Clarke first arrived in Victoria in 2013 to work with Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) as their Lead, Strength & Conditioning for the Rio Olympic quadrennial. During that time he became the Co-Lead, Strength and Conditioning for the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. Since leaving RCA in 2017, he has held roles as a Sport Science consultant for Canada Soccer Association, Head of Strength and Conditioning for the Vikes and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the school of Exercise Science, Physical & Health Education (EPHE). Clarke is also an active member of the Performance Advisory Council with Own the Podium.
Clarke is a demonstrated leader and system builder with a strong respect and passion for university research and education, positive student experience and performance sport. He boasts a strong commitment to advancing the Vikes culture of athletics in a fashion that aligns with expectations of safe sport and university priorities centred on diversity and equality. A committed lifelong learner and relationship builder, Clarke is passionate about strategy development.
Born in Tamworth, England, Clarke has his Sport and Exercise Science degree, along with his Bachelor of Science from the University of Bath, where he also played four years of rugby. He later obtained both his Master of Science (Kinesiology) and Ph.D. (Sport Science) from the University of Saskatchewan, where he participated in varsity soccer and track and field.

Gail Milliken joined the Vikes Athletic and Recreation team in January 2009 as the Assistant to the Director of the department and is currently the Supervisor of Administration. Milliken is a true sports enthusiast. She has played volleyball, soccer, fast-pitch and mixed slo-pitch, and took up tennis and golf following her children no longer requiring her on the sidelines. Milliken's husband Dave is a tile setter by trade and in his spare time plays and coaches slo-pitch.
Together the Milliken's have two children, Kelly and Garret.Kelly, following her graduation in 2014 from Royal Military College, is currently serving at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, at the rank of Captain, and is very active with organization of community events (military/civilian), and continues her soccer, fast pitch and co-ed and women's slo-pitch teams. She married in 2017, and her family is expanding in 2019. Garret graduated from Mt. Douglas High School and was a member of the 2009 AA provincial championship Rams football team. He is currently working in the construction industry.

Stellingwerff is a NCCP Level 3 certified coach and Chartered Professional Coach. She obtained Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin where she majored in journalism and communication arts, earned her teacher's certification through University of Western Ontario's Bachelor of Education program and completed a diploma in French Language at UVic.

Isaac Davies grew up in Smithers, BC, where he developed a love for sports and the outdoors. During his youth, he was active in hockey, soccer, golf, and volleyball. His interest in sports and healthcare drew him into physiotherapy.
Isaac graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Masters of Physiotherapy degree following the completion of his Honours Degree in Kinesiology (BSc.) from the University of Victoria.
Isaac lived in Victoria prior to completing his physiotherapy training, where he rowed with the University of Victoria Men's Rowing Program, and officiated and played hockey. Isaac is currently providing Physiotherapy and travelling with the 2018 UVIC Men's Rowing Team and coaching Female Midget AAA hockey.
As a Physiotherapist, Isaac is passionate about getting to the root of your problem, and helping you to move better and feel better. He listens to you, to better understand your injury history. He will then do a full physical assessment to help you better understand your injury and what the recovery process will require.

Jason Wright is responsible for our UVic Sport Club, martial arts & racquet sport programs. Originally from Ottawa, this Ontario native arrived at UVic in 2008 after a decade spent working abroad. A kinesiology graduate from the University of Western Ontario, Wright has been involved in sports and recreation his entire life. Wright's keen interest in competition is matched only by his interest in travel.

Joni Richardson has worked in the Vikes Athletics and Recreation Department since 2007. Her current role consists of managing the Intramural department but has previously been responsible for Business Systems, Summer Camps and Outdoor Recreation.
Richardson graduated from Trinity Western University where she played soccer and obtained a bachelor degree in Kinesiology. She is still playing soccer with a local women's league in Victoria.
Richardson's playing experience ranges from the provincial to the international level. Her long history in the game of soccer provided the motivation to pursue her coaching certifications so she can give back to the local community.

Katherine Brien began her role as the Vikes' Associate Director, Sport Compliance and Student Support in August, 2021.
Brien's position contributes to the ongoing growth and development of the varsity and sport club programs through specific areas of accountability, helping the university continue to meet the evolving needs of the student-athlete experience. Specifically, this position is another of the several significant Vikes initiatives aimed to strengthen the universities commitment further to provide a safe, respectful and supportive environment for student-athletes.
Brien joined the Vikes after serving as the Executive Director of Basketball Nova Scotia. There, she gained extensive knowledge and experience with policy development, as well as designing and delivering strategic direction around safe sport standards. Brien also spent seven years with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto FC, and the Toronto Argonauts.
A former varsity basketball player at Mount Saint Vincent University in Nova Scotia, Brien graduated with a Bachelor of Marketing in 2010.

Larry Stefanek enters his second season as the head coach of the Vikes men's soccer program in 2023-24. Stefanek becomes the sixth head coach in program history, taking over for legendary head coach Bruce Wilson who retired at the end of the 2021 campaign.
Stefanek arrived at UVic from Vancouver Island University, where he spent four seasons (2018-21) as the head coach of the men's soccer program. In that time, he found tremendous success leading the program to PacWest silver medals in 2019 and 2021 and a CCAA silver medal in 2019, while also earning PacWest Coach of the Year honours that season.
The Vikes soccer alumnus played under Bruce Wilson from 1989-1992, during which he was named a CIS (now U SPORTS) All-Canadian and Canada West All-Star. Prior to that, Stefanek played for two seasons at Malaspina College (now VIU). He also represented Canada in the 1993 World Student (FISU) Games and played futsal at the U18 level.
Stefanek's resume is extensive, including spending time as an associate coach with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC from 2015-2018. He's also spent many years coaching in the Vancouver Island Premier League as well at the development level with the Whitecaps FC academy program, BC Summer Games and Upper Island Academy, to name a few. He holds a Canada Soccer A Licence.
Stefanek graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Education, and later completed his Master of Education in coaching studies at UVic.

An RCA Level 4 coach and National Coaching Institute Victoria graduate, Van Schothorst has served on the boards of the Greater Victoria Youth Rowing Society, Rowing British Columbia and the Canadian University Rowing Association. He also drove the successful junior program at the Victoria City Rowing Club prior to joining UVic.
