Dr. Schuman continued to be involved in gas permeable contact lens polymer research for over 15 years within his more than 30 years of experience in polymer chemistry. Dr. Schuman utilized his extensive background in fluorine chemistry to develop one of the first and still unique fluorine-containing contact lens polymers. A contemporary of Dr. Schuman, William Peterson, PhD (Organosilicon Chemistry) was also instrumental in historical polymer developments and remains a resource today.
