Audrey Nessim

Audrey is Walden's Certified Public Accountant and Controller. With over 30 years of accounting experience, Audrey is a key part of the Walden team. While working as a staff accountant for many small and large companies across Long Island, she gained an immense amount of experience involving correspondence with tax authorities, processing payroll, preparing profit and loss statements, and maintaining general ledgers. Audrey joined Walden as our lead Controller in charge of profit and loss statements, cash management, job costing, monthly financial statements, cash flow, payroll, and many other tasks. Audrey brings with her experience in BillQuick, QuickBooks, Lotus, Excel, Exactax, Prosystems, Clients and Profits, MAS 90, Great Plains, and Peachtree.

Joe Heaney is a mechanical engineer with experience designing and building HVAC systems for high-rise residential buildings, hospitality centers, healthcare facilities, and commercial office spaces. Previously, as President and founder of Lotus Biosecurity, Heaney gained experience leading a multi-disciplinary team of energy, mechanical, engineering, and epidemiological experts to consult on and implement measures to build healthy and energy-efficient spaces for businesses recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout his career, Heaney developed a breadth of knowledge around regulatory compliance strategies and energy-efficient construction solutions in the tri-state area. His expertise in addressing indoor air quality concerns has been sought out by small businesses in a variety of industries as well as media, such as the Wall Street Journal, Business Insider, USA Today, Healthline, and others as a thought leader on risk mitigation during COVID-19. Heaney is an MBA candidate at NYU's Stern School of Business and has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. At Walden, he leads our green energy and sustainability services, focusing on the New York City, Long Island, and Hudson Valley markets. As Principal, Joe provides supervision and direction for all technical operations of Walden Environmental Engineering to ensure that we meet our clients' goals. Under Joe's leadership, Walden has grown into the successful company it is today. Joe founded Walden in 1995 on the principles of integrity, professionalism, cost effective services, trust, social responsibility, and profitability. He has skillfully used his 30 years' experience in the industry to continuously fulfill clients' needs by upholding these principles while simultaneously increasing Walden's revenue year after year. As the leading force behind Walden, Joe continually increases its service offerings to meet the burgeoning needs of our clients. Joe has overseen major projects in numerous market sectors and is directly responsible for the strategic direction and implementation of many. Joe is an expert at managing the environmental compliance needs of municipalities, industrial clients and law firms. With his experience and vast regulatory knowledge on environmental compliance issues and their effect on business operations, Joe provides Walden's clients with quick, decisive and tangible recommendations for addressing complex problems. He is a Professional Engineer licensed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

Karen Diemer - CMO

Karen has over 20 years of experience in the AEC industries. Her background includes work to lead the development and launch of internal and external communications strategies for worldwide corporations using traditional and social channels. She has used a wide range of skills to develop organizational strategies and undertake tactical implementation, including writing, designing, and editing. While Karen has proven success in developing and implementing successful mar/comm programs, she is also recognized for having exceptional aptitude and resourcefulness in problem-solving, developing sustainable relationships within organizations, building successful teams, supporting professional staff, and creating programs to communicate initiatives. As the sole communications professional for a large general contractor, she was responsible for spearheading the development and launch of programs to support a variety of other departments such as safety, human resources, and legal. Karen is also adept at managing significant budgets while exploring new ways to contribute to bottom-line savings without sacrificing quality. At Walden, she works closely with other team members to develop strategies for positioning the firm as an industry leader and growing market share.

Kenneth B. Brezner

Ken Brezner has decades of experience with all aspects of regulations pertaining to materials management, including solid waste, active hazardous waste, and pesticides. Prior to joining Walden, Brezner was the Regional Materials Management Engineer for the New York City (NYC) region of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), where he worked for almost 35 years. Some significant projects that he worked on during his time with the DEC included closing the Fresh Kills Landfill (as well as several other major landfills), permitting the four NYC Marine Transfer Stations, managing the NYC Solid Waste Management Plan, and regulating all of the solid waste facilities in NYC. Brezner's years of experience and skill have helped solidify his reputation as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) throughout the solid waste industry. Brezner is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in New York and New Jersey. He is an integral part of Walden's solid waste management team.

Mark Morgano

Mark Morgano is a registered PE licensed to practice in Connecticut and an expert in environmental, health, and safety compliance issues. He is also co-founder of Turnkey Compliance Solutions, a division of Walden Environmental Engineering. Morgano's decades of experience have been dedicated to environmental, health, and safety issues focusing on air and industrial wastewater compliance. He brings a broad range of knowledge and experience to his work. Morgano's years of experience and demonstrated expertise in collaborating with clients have been a key component in their success in helping organizations specializing in optics, woodworking, metal finishing, plastics, aerospace, and pharmaceuticals achieve their business goals. Through his work, Morgano has conducted multiple audits of corporate management systems and compliance programs throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America, in addition to air compliance projects in the far East.

Mike Balda

Mike has worked in the environmental compliance industry since 1994. He started his career as a chemist with a large, publicly owned environmental services company and then into the industrial sector as the Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) at a semiconductor manufacturer. In 2005, he co-founded Turnkey Compliance Solutions, a division of Walden Environmental Engineering, based on the simple philosophy of providing clients with unwavering dedication and commitment. Since that time, he has worked tirelessly to become a valued partner to all of their clients. Balda believes that by fully understanding the business compliance needs of their clients, he can deliver solutions that provide real value to their operations. Being in consulting for many years, he has a proven track record of satisfied customers with whom he partners closely. His ability to build sustainable relationships at all levels of an organization has led to the success of our EHS Division.

Robert A. LoPinto - VP

Bob brings his extensive experience in Air Quality and Air Emissions Permitting, Lab Consulting and Solid Waste Permitting to our clients. With over 35 years of experience, Bob has broad, in-depth knowledge of environmental and civil engineering. He is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College and served in the Army Corps of Engineers for 21 years. He served his country as a Division Engineer Supply Officer in Vietnam and is a professor of Military Science at Hofstra University. His expertise includes system design and compliance for wastewater; hazardous waste; air pollution and solid waste; field Inspection and on-site audits of industrial facilities; laboratory management; field noise measurements and noise mitigation system design; and engineering/technical report preparation. Bob has served on numerous waste and recycling advisory boards and commissions.
