Rohan Thompson is the founder and CEO of the Sounding Board Consulting. He was born and raised in Jamaica as the elder of two boys. His mother, a single parent, taught them to believe in themselves and to always dream big. She made it her duty to model empathy and good work ethics and these principles became the foundation of Rohan's life and career. Rohan has worked in the Social Work field for over fourteen years where he acquired sound knowledge in various counselling approaches including Narrative, Solution-focused, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic, Crisis intervention, Task-centred, and Strength-based. He possesses effective assessment skills with a keen ability to identify clients' unique strengths. He earned his Masters Degree in Social Work from York University in 2007. Prior to private practice, Rohan worked with clients and families impacted by traumatic brain injuries. He also served as an Abuse Counsellor at the Family Service, York Region where he worked with men who exhibited abusive behaviours towards their partners. In addition, Rohan taught communication and fundamental counselling skills to social service worker students at Centennial College for 8+ years. Currently, he provides counselling services for individuals and families through Second Chance, a non-profit organization. He is also a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers - Registration # 808129. Being a member of a visible minority group, Rohan is knowledgeable and sensitive to cultural and ethnic diversity issues. He is also keenly aware of forms of social injustice such as poverty, discrimination and imbalances of power. As a result, he invests time and energy into understanding different cultures which enables him to add a cultural variant to his practice. At the core, Rohan believes that each human being is important, regardless of race, color or creed. It was this love for people, especially the family unit, that attracted him to this field. Rohan is happily married to his lovely wife, Michelle. They have three children Isaac, Jonathan, and Katelyn. Spending quality time with his family binging on Netflix and junk food is a ritual that he looks forward to every Friday evening. He loves to relax with a good, non-fiction inspirational book while listening to music. His taste for music is broad with no favourites in genre or artist as stated in his own words "once the music is inspiring, I will listen, sing and dance". Keeping abreast of current affairs is also a passion which he does through listening, watching and reading the daily news. This helps him to keep his ears to the ground.
