Where applicable, we treat our subjects as autonomous agents and protect those with diminished autonomy (the vulnerable groups). This is applied in the requirement for informed consent from our subjects following adequate and comprehensible information and ensuring their participation is voluntary and confidential... We also endeavor that the burden and benefits of our research activities are fairly distributed by following the generally accepted formulations: (1) to each person an equal share, (2) to each person according to individual need, (3) to each person according to individual effort, (4) to each person according to societal contribution, and (5) to each person according to merit. Based on this principle, we ensure fair procedures and outcomes in the selection of research subjects... The Centre was birthed out of a grave concern for the melancholic state of research and academia...
