Alex also regularly advises on the property and environmental aspects of corporate and property finance transactions.
Experience
Over the course of his career, Alex has acted on a wide variety of development projects dealing with commercial, residential and mixed-use regeneration and development schemes as well of development projects in the natural resources/energy sectors.
He can provide advice on all property aspects of development projects and has particular experience of site acquisition and land assembly through conditional contracts, option agreements and planning promotion and collaboration agreements together with other development-related work such as development agreements, joint venture agreements, complex overage/clawback arrangements, development finance and ultimately the letting and disposal of completed developments.
Alex is also able to provide specialist advice on mineral ownership issues and their impact on development projects.
Alex has particular experience of acting on natural resources projects and in particular the property and environmental aspects of mining and quarrying operations, acting for landowners, developers and operators/end users. His recent experience includes:

He is particularly renowned for his expertise in energy matters, mines and mineral rights, and is regarded as 'one of the foremost mineral experts in the region'.
Alex Cox advises on a range of rural property transactions, including the property aspects of energy projects. Experience
In the private sector, Alex regularly acts for both landlords and tenants in their negotiation of commercial property leases, together with all associated leasehold documentation.
In addition to landlord and tenant work, Alex has successfully advised clients on commercial property sales and acquisitions of industrial, retail, office and development property as well as in relation to investment portfolios. He has particular expertise in the industrial and office sectors.
Alex is also familiar with all leasehold management documentation including licences for alteration, deeds of variation of leases, licences to underlet and assign and rent deposit deeds.
Alex has acted for various commercial banks securing high value loans against property portfolios and both commercial and residential sectors and has a good understanding of banking security in relation to properties.
He has given extensive advice to both borrowers and lenders in this regard.
He regularly liaises with the Corporate Department and assists with the property element of high value company acquisitions and disposals and advises on the property provisions in share and asset purchase agreements.
Alex works closely with the insolvency team on the property aspects of insolvency deals and has acted for administrators and liquidators in the transfer of freehold and leasehold properties as well as advising buyers in the acquisition of property in insolvency matters.

The £350 million refinance of a local public utility.
The acquisition of a large chemical plant for a European Buyer
The lease to flagship London Headquarters for a major international company.

Alicia is an Associate in the Real Estate team at Ward Hadaway. She has a wide range of experience in dealing with matters for a diverse set of clients.
Alicia acts on a wide variety of matters, including freehold and leasehold disposals and acquisitions, management of clients' property portfolios and regularly advising on utility and telecommunications aspects of property transactions.
She acts on landlord and tenant matters including the initial grant of a lease, lease renewals, underlettings, assignment, variations, surrenders and has experience acting on either side of such transactions, taking into account the client's specific requirements.
In addition, Alicia can provide advice on secured lending and refinance transactions, including providing property support on commercial transactions for both grant funding and secured lending.
She regular advises local authorities in both managing and expanding their property portfolios. This advice also extends to reviewing occupation by charity tenants, disposal of land to charities for provision of social housing and reviewing management agreements of social housing with charity involvement.

Amanda is a Solicitor in the Social Housing Litigation Team based in the Leeds office having joined the firm in 2019. Amanda work closely with the team led by Simon Thirtle.
Amanda assists registered providers of social housing with all aspects of housing management, however she has a particular focus on anti-social behaviour and housing disrepair. Amanda regularly advocates on her own hearings.
Experience
Amanda regularly provides assistance to RPs in the resolution of anti-social behaviour with a particular focus on injunction and possession claims (including accelerated possession claims and trespass).
She also has experience of issuing proceedings to deal with specific breaches of lease, such as rental arrears, failure to maintain property and access injunctions.
Assisting the department's leasehold practice, Amanda has developed her knowledge surrounding a variety of leasehold matters both contentious and non-contentious. Matters worked on include a large-scale, multiple property lease variation and claims for unpaid service charges and ground rent.
Amanda also regularly deals with claims for housing disrepair - both pre-action and fully litigated - for a number of Housing Association and Local Authority landlords.
