MONTAGU WINES & SPIRITS

The recipe of the original Montagu Muscadel dates back to the 1930's when the first Montagu Muscadel was made by the Brink Brothers. The winemaker then at Brink Brothers, Knox Davies, became the first winemaker of Soetwyn Boere Koöperatief (Sweet wine Farmer's Co-operative) and established this winery as the leader in the production of muscadel in Montagu. This winery stood the test of time, though under different names... In 2010, the Uitvlucht Winery as it was known by then, amalgamated with the Rietrivier Winery, 20km out of town in the direction of Barrydale, to become Montagu Wine and Spirits... Through history, the aim of this winery was to keep up with trends and produce wine for ultimate enjoyment and this is reflected in our colourful, trendsetting labels.
