Dr Bob Rankin - Founder

Dr Bob Rankin worked for almost thirty years as a Senior Lecturer in nurse education and completed a PhD looking at the relationship between emotional intelligence and performance and retention of student nurses. Bob's doctoral research found a significant correlation between student nurses' emotional intelligence and the quality of their performance while in practice placements and retention. This research led to further work involving emotional intelligence assessments that were used in selecting student nurses for their degree programmes. rankein has developed from Bob's research, applying it to new contexts.

Gillian Nineham - Founder

Gillian Nineham has spent most of her career in publishing, working at board level and co-founding and leading several start-ups. She has experience in publishing books, academic journals, videos, educational programmes and online resources. She is a trustee of three charities and a non-executive director of a community interest company. Gillian first became interested in emotional intelligence when she published ‘Emotional Intelligence in Health and Social Care - improving human relationships', a book to which Bob Rankin contributed a chapter.

Jack Ogston

Jack Ogston spent 36 years with Clydesdale Bank latterly as Head of the Corporate Banking & Structured Finance Division in Scotland. Jack retired from the bank in 2009 and since then has held various Non Executive Director and Advisory roles. He is currently Advisor to rankein Group, Chairman of Cancer Support Scotland, Deputy Chairman of Scottish Building Society and Custodian at Aberdeen Football Club.

Martin Laidlaw - Founder

Martin Laidlaw is a former senior Social and Economic Policy Advisor in local government and Head of Academic School for Community Learning and Business Development in the Further Education sector. His particular focus was on offender learning, employability, enterprise, management, social care, community development and essential skills. He developed a special interest in positive and cooperative self-management, which led him into investigating emotional intelligence approaches for leadership, recruitment and professional development.

Mike Brown - Founder

Mike Brown has a degree in International Business from the University of Edinburgh. He has worked in business development and sales for almost a decade, both for large multinational companies and small start-ups, in particular in the fields of technology, finance and events. He has co-founded a number of businesses and consulted for several start-ups. Mike has a passion for all things business and is committed to finding ways to help organisations improve.
