Alison Williams

Alison joined Moore House Education in 2015 as our Health and Wellbeing, Home Economics, Social Enterprise and Wider Achievement awards teacher. After a brief spell away, she returned in 2019 as Principal Teacher before being promoted to Senior Manager, Education. Alison oversees both our Moore House Academy Bathgate and Moore House Primary Dunfermline. When Alison left school she was undecided on what career path to take. She studied catering and hotel management before going on to study social care. While working in the education and care sector, Alison quickly realised her passion lay within education. Alison returned to studying at the University of Dundee and has worked for almost twenty eight years with primary, BGE and senior phase pupils within education in the care sector, mainstream and in ASN schools. Her passion is to inspire and encourage young people to believe in themselves by encouraging learning and participation. Alison supports our children and young people in Moore House Primary and Moore House Academy Bathgate to build confidence and self esteem while providing a safe nurturing environment where they can achieve their full potential, preparing for the next steps in life.

Bob Donnelly

I am a Psychologist and I visit Moore House twice a month. I meet a lot of staff but mostly see Stephen, Stephanie and Adam in PSI - they make me laugh and "chill out" every week! We discuss their work with new admissions and how young people new to Moore House can best settle in and get all they can out of being with Moore House. Bob was educated at Strathclyde, Dundee and Glasgow Universities. Qualified as a teacher in 1971 and worked at Gillburn Primary School in Dundee. Appointed as Educational Psychologist with Perth and Kinross Council in 1974 which became Tayside Region in 1975.

Claire McClafferty

Claire qualified as a social worker in 1988 and has experience of working in both the voluntary and statutory sectors. She was previously employed in local authority child care and generic practice in South Lanarkshire and Central Scotland. She also spent six years working for an adoption agency in Glasgow. She has achieved post graduate qualifications in Child Protection and Permanency Planning and, more recently completed Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy training. She is passionately committed to improving the life experiences and opportunities for looked after children and is proud of our achievements in creating new families for so many children and young people who have experienced disruption, trauma and loss. Claire works full time in our Livingston office and has recently been promoted to the role of Deputy Service Manager with a focus on Continuing Care for young people aged 18+. In her free time, Claire is busy supporting her four children to pursue their interests which include swimming, running, horse riding and dancing. She has a long wish list of places she wants to go and things she wants to do…if she ever finds the time to do it!

Donna Carvill

Donna Carvill has worked in social work since 1989. Initially as a befriender and home support worker before moving to a child care team. She has worked in several local authorities in both practitioner and manager roles before moving to JMT in 2013. Since moving here Donna has focussed on changes in policy and legislation and worked with the team to ensure we keep our carers up to date. When not working Donna enjoys going to the gym, cooking and running. She is also a member of various choirs and is writing a book.

Dr James Urquhart

James began working as a Psychotherapist in a) a mental health outpatient Clinic and b) an NHS Child and Family Psychiatric Unit, both in Scotland. After 10 yrs he left for America where he joined the private sector and gained extensive business experience at Senior Management level in the Oil and Gas Industry. Returning to Scotland, he completed a Master's degree in Business Administration and a Ph.D in organisational psychology, lectured in Strategy at the University of St. Andrews Management School and eventually became Head of a University Graduate School of Business in Ireland. He is an experienced business/organisational consultant and over 20 yrs has worked with the Boards of major public, private and social enterprise organisations on managing change projects. He currently works as a) a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice; (b) a business/organisational consultant and (c) a founding Trustee/Director (former Chair) of a major Irish company limited by guarantee with charitable status.

Dr Stephen Drysdale - CEO

Stephen's dedication to Moore House Group spans nearly two decades. He has held various roles across care, education, and psychological services, gaining invaluable experience and leading with a clear vision: to ensure that every young person under their care has the chance to reach their full potential. As Chief Executive Officer, Stephen is responsible for the overall management of the services provided by Moore House Group, in line with the strategic objectives established by the Board of Directors and Trustees. Stephen holds a Doctorate in Forensic Psychology, with research interests including developmental trauma and resilience in young people. Stephen also serves as a Trustee for Scottish Attachment in Action, and on the Management Committee for Educating through Care Scotland. These roles allow him to advocate for children with additional support needs and promote the importance of secure attachment for healthy development. Stephen is an honorary lecturer on the undergraduate Psychology course and MSc in Forensic Psychology programme at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU). He has also guest lectured on the BA Education and Social Services, and HNC Childhood Practice programmes at West College Scotland, the Employability Skills Programme at The University of St Andrews, and has presented material at conferences in the UK and Ireland. Stephen strongly advocates that relationships and shared positive experiences with trusted adults are at the core of successful therapeutic placements. With over 18 years experience in social care, and a background in teaching and the NHS, Stephen is dedicated to improving the life chances for young people in Scotland.

Gary Greenshields

Gary has been with Moore House since 2015, he has over thirty years experience in the residential child care sector and has worked in a variety of fields from learning disabilities, community care, secure care and residential children's homes both in the private sector and with local authority. Gary has been in a management position for over 15 years, both as a registered manager and a senior manager.

Judy Furnivall

Judy Furnivall is a qualified social worker and organisational consultant. She is currently working as an independent consultant in the child care sector. She was formerly a lecturer at the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children in Scotland based in the University of Strathclyde. She began her career as a member of staff at Peper Harow Therapeutic Community, progressing to the role of Clinical Assistant Director. Since moving to Scotland, she has worked as a lecturer, researcher, trainer and consultant, with a particular focus on residential child care. Her passionate belief in the importance of attachment as a foundational theory and approach, in all relational work, underpins her consultancy and training. As well as her interest in attachment she also maintains a focus on the need to adopt an approach to vulnerable children that is informed by a trauma-based perspective but which emphasises the importance of recognising and developing resilience. She is particularly interested in helping workers and carers to use understandings about attachment, trauma and resilience to underpin their therapeutic practice. She provides training and consultancy on self-harm and suicide and is pursuing that interest at depth by undertaking a PhD at Stirling University looking at the impact and meaning of the suicide of young care leavers. She has a Master's degree, from the Tavistock Centre, in Consulting and Leading in Organisations: Psychodynamic and Systemic Approaches, as well as the Tavistock Qualification in Consultancy. She is also completing a professional doctorate at the Tavistock focusing on understanding the inter and intra personal dynamics and systemic factors influencing the use of physical restraint in residential child care. She is currently vice chair of Scottish Attachment in Action, which has a mission to improve the understanding of attachment across the life course and provide training and consultancy to support the use of this in practice. She has been a persistent advocate for the place of love in the care system and was a member of the Independent Care Review Love Group. She is also a member of the Scottish Physical Restraint Action Group.

Lee Sheridan

As a Director, Lee contributes to the strategic development and planning of Moore House Group. Lee brings past experience of his role as a senior manager in the Merchant Navy and residential childcare within Lothian Region local authority. Lee has an overview and contributes his expertise to issues regarding health and safety, property, development and maintenance across Moore House Group.

Lorna Walker

Lorna is one of the education advisers to the Moore House Group, supporting teachers and day care staff in undertaking quality assurance, school improvement planning and in ensuring they are alert to national initiatives. Following achieving a degree from Glasgow University and a postgraduate teaching qualification, Lorna gained a Diploma in Special Education. Lorna's career has been wide ranging, working as a mainstream teacher as well as in ‘special education'. Her roles in further education and as local authority adviser and senior education officer, provided real opportunities to work strategically with colleagues in social work, health services and the third sector. Following her role in ‘turning around' a failing school, she was appointed as one of Her Majesty's Inspectors and subsequently became the Lead Inspector for the residential special school sector. She co-wrote two well received publications relevant to the sector - Improving Practice in Residential Special Schools and Secure Care Accommodation Services in Scotland. During her time as administrator for Educating through Care Scotland(EtCS) the network for residential schools, she supported many schools to improve their practice. In 2011, Lorna also published an online support manual which was purchased and used by more than half of Scotland's authorities. Lorna has undertaken reviews of support for learning and inclusion in several local authorities and continues to work in the residential special school sector. Current work along with her colleague, WIn Wood, includes taking forward an initiative funded by The Promise Board, which highlights the importance of the sector in the continuum of support and its willingness to continuously improve in line with The Promise Foundations. The real desire to support care and education staff to improve the lives of care experienced children and young people drives Lorna to help them to achieve Scotland's ambition:

Louise Cushen

Before coming to Moorehouse in 2015, Louise worked in homeless accommodation. During this time she worked with a number of care leavers which brought her onto her career in residential child care. Louise has worked in residential child care since 2005, initially as a practitioner before progressing to management in 2016, her experience in residential childcare has supported her to become a supportive leader in residential childcare. She has taken advantage of a range of training opportunities including Rickter Scale, bully-proofing, self harm, Designated Child Protection Officer, DDP level 1 and 2, SCM among many others. Louise is one of our child protection trainers for the organisation. She relishes the role as well as her role as Depute Head Of Care. Louise believes that every child, no matter their past, with the correct guidance, support, boundaries, nurture, care, structure, routine and love can go on to have a positive future. Louise's heart is in residential child care, leading the management team and residential teams in a supportive role modelling way creating positive outcomes for every child in our care. Louise prides herself on the role she plays in the lives of Scotland's most vulnerable children.

Mark Cook

Mark has spent 30 years in roles within Scotland's health sector including biologicals/pharmaceuticals, medical technology and consultancy. He has extensive Board experience through Chairing the Scottish Teachers Pension Scheme, Scottish Brain Sciences, Life Sciences Scotland, Association Of British Health Tech Industries as well as several advisory roles in Scotland. His strength is in governance, strategy and planning. The work of Moore House resonates with Mark as he believes that all young people have a right to the best education possible for them with long term exclusion not a viable or appropriate option. Mark is new to this sector and looks forward to learning and supporting while hoping that his wider experience may be useful.

Patricia Sheridan - Founder, Managing Director

Patricia Sheridan, the founder of Moore House Group, was brought up in a working class family in Leith. From an early age, she believed that people who faced hardship and disadvantage could cope better and flourish if they were surrounded by caring, loving people. She established Moore House School in 1988 and The Jane Moore Trust in 1991 and named the organisation after her mum, Jane Moore. Mrs Sheridan established Moore House School in 1988. Her drive was to create a service with her personal mantras "Determined to Deliver Excellence" and "I'm Possible" for young people. Mrs Sheridan leads the Board of Directors and continues to have a hands-on approach using a range of experiences and techniques to engage with young people to elicit their views on the service they are receiving. Her passion is for young people to be supported by adults who believe in their potential and adults who share the organisational values of respect, integrity and dignity for all. She expects all staff to take responsibility for being capable, competent professionals, contributing positively towards the health, wellbeing and progress of our young people. Mrs Sheridan reminds us that we are responsible for creating trusting relationships and happy memories for our young people. She strives to ensure that our young people experience as many creative, happy, nurturing memories as possible. In terms of her career journey, Mrs Sheridan has gathered a range of qualifications. She was an RGN, an RMN Registered Nurse, a qualified Social Worker and at a later point, an MA in Education and an MSc in Forensic Psychology. Mrs Sheridan continues to strive for excellence and ensures that her passion for high quality services is cascaded throughout the organisation to encourage each and every team member to recognise the important part they play in the wellbeing and progress that our young people experience.
