In Kindergarten, my class performed a Thanksgiving program for our parents to the song Ten Little Indians. My love of performance was born. I desperately wanted to be the Indian Princess who got to sit in the teepee and wear a beautiful headdress. Instead I was chosen as a narrator. I found out later it was because my teacher thought I was the only student who could speak clearly and manage all the narrator's lines. It didn't seem like much of an honor at the time. The princess had no lines but she had that headdress and I figured she must be the star of the show.
