Dave Leighton

Dave is a widely experienced civil engineer and construction manager and has been a consultant to the practice since 2011. His broad experience includes the management of building restoration, bridge reconstruction and landslip stabilisation of locally and nationally important structures. Dave is an experienced CDM coordinator and site health and safety management practitioner. Dave holds a First Class BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree as well as an NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Construction Health & Safety. Dave is a Member of The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) , and from 2008-2009 he was the Regional President of the National Federation of Builders. Dave's extensive practical and management skills in the fields of civil engineering and construction have proved to be an invaluable asset to the practice.

Emma Cook

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Society of Architectural Illustration
Emma graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2010 with a BA (Hons) degree in Architectural Studies. Upon graduation, Emma began working for Close, Granger, Gray & Wilkin on a voluntary basis. Emma's experience, qualifications and skills in architectural modelling, architectural illustration and CAD drawing led to her being employed by the practice in 2011. In 2014, Emma gained Technician membership status of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, becoming a professionally qualified Architectural Technician.

Geoff Hodgson

  • Member of the Whitby Life Boat Crew
Geoff graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2000 with a BSc (Hons) Building Surveying degree. While studying for his degree Geoff worked at Close, Granger, Gray & Wilkin on a sandwich placement. He was subsequently employed on a permanent basis while completing his degree part-time. Upon graduation, Geoff was appointed as a Director. Geoff has a considerable knowledge of the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and is experienced in carrying out Party Wall surveys. He also has extensive experience of carrying out structural, building and condition surveys, and is experienced in assisting clients with boundary disputes. In 2002 Geoff became an Incorporate of the Chartered Institute of Building. Geoff is an active member of the Whitby Life Boat Crew, acting as a helmsman for the inshore boat and as a navigator for the offshore boat.

Paul West

Paul worked for over 40 years as a Local Authority Building Control surveyor before joining the practice as a consultant. He achieved the level of Principle Officer with Building Control and has brought a significant depth of knowledge to the practice on all aspects of Building Regulations and building surveying generally. He is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and throughout his career he has had significant involvement with many major industrial, commercial and housing developments in the North East, as well as with large scale town centre redevelopments. In addition to this, he has overseen numerous domestic extension and alteration projects.

Tim Close

Job Titles:
  • Founding Member of the Practice
Tim is a founding member of the practice and has worked in the public, private and military sectors of engineering and architecture since 1976. He studied at the Royal School of Military Engineering, London South Bank University, and the University of Chester, and holds an MA in Military Studies. Tim is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Construction Manager, Chartered Building Surveyor, Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor and Chartered Architectural Technologist. Tim has extensive experience in the investigation and remediation of land instability and land drainage. He is an experienced practitioner in thermal and condensation assessment of existing and proposed buildings and has extensive knowledge of the adaptation and repair of historic buildings. Tim is also an experienced practitioner in project supervision and risk management in the civil and defence environments.
