Derek Mowbray, Director of the Management Advisory Service, is a Chartered Psychologist and Chartered Scientist, with a doctorate in the psychology of leadership. He specialises in the primary prevention of psychological distress at work, with a focus on promoting wellbeing and performance as the preventative method. His approach is to use cultural and behavioural influences that build commitment, trust and engagement, linking these to his models of organisation development and personal performance. He is the architect of The WellBeing and Performance Agenda which is a framework for turning organisations into ‘fabulous places to work'. He is behind the idea of promoting Psychological Responsibility in the workplace where everyone has a responsibility for the psychological wellbeing of themselves and everyone else. Derek is an excellent public speaker on subjects such as Creating a Culture for Wellbeing and Performance, Corporate and Personal Resilience and Management Behaviours that Minimise Workplace Stress. He is a regular contributor to HSE, CIPD, HSJ, and LinkedIn communities, and has made national presentations at conferences for the Institute of Healthcare Management, International Stress Management Association, British Psychological Society, CIPD, IBEC, Health and Wellbeing at Work, NHS Employers, the HSJ World Class Workforce, Royal College of General Practitioners. Derek Mowbray is a Trustee of The International Stress Management Association (ISMA) and a director of The National Centre for Applied Psychology. He is also an Independent Technical Expert to the European Commission on Psychological Wellbeing at Work. Derek Mowbray is a Chartered Psychologist and Chartered Scientist with a doctorate in leadership. Dr Dirk Stemper is an associate of MAS, living in Berlin. He is a Director of the Institute for Leadership Dynamics Gmbh and focuses on Adaptive Leadership, Individual and Organisational Resilience, Wellbeing & Performance. Dirk has over 20 years of professional experience in both management and consulting functions, including executive health. In addition to his medical and commercial background, he is a psychotherapist and coach, with his own practice specializing in Dr Dirk Stemper is based in Berlin and is a Director of the INSTITUTE FOR LEADERSHIP DYNAMICS GMBH. Gary Hogman

Gary Hogman is an Associate of the Management Advisory Service, a member of the British Psychological Society (MBpsych) and has just completed an MSc in Occupational Psychology at Birkbeck College, University of London. He has 20 years experience working in mental health in the areas of research, policy, communications and campaigns and has been an associate of MAS for three years delivering workshops on resilience. Gary was the national programme lead for the Department of Health's mental health awareness campaign ‘Shift' which tackled the stigma and discrimination that surrounds mental illness, with a focus on employers. Gary worked with Dame Carol Black and her team on the Government's health and employment review of which the Shift ‘Line Manager's Resource' and ‘Shift Employment Films' constituted a key part of the Government's response. In his work with ‘Shift' Gary worked with a wide variety of individuals and organisations including Government departments, national charities, professional bodies (sport, health and social care), research institutions, media organisations and national businesses. Gary has also read widely in the areas of the psychology of creativity and innovation, and has a keen interest in digital communications. Gary Hogman is focussed on supporting organisations to improve their peoples' mental health by building resilience and developing creative people and organisations. Gary is a psychology graduate with 20 years experience working in mental health in the areas of research, policy, communications and campaigns. After three years at the local health authority level he spent 12 years working at the national level in the third sector before joining the National Mental Health Development Unit to run the Department of Health's national programme, ‘Shift' for five years.

Ruth Brown

Ruth has been delivering mental health, resilience, parenting and safeguarding training since 2005, in the corporate, education, statutory and voluntary sectors, to both staff and volunteers, including line managers and senior leadership teams. Ruth is an expert group facilitator and a teacher of adults, who has been involved in training and facilitation in a wide range of contexts in the UK and overseas. She is particularly skilled at adapting her delivery style and content to different contexts and multi-cultural organisations. Ruth's background is in volunteer management and adult education. Most of her career has been spent in the voluntary sector in training and education. She has also held many voluntary roles in charities and community organisations, including co-pastoring a local church for 15 years. Her experience of managing volunteers and staff has taught her the importance of developing a culture in which every individual is valued, motivated and able to positively contribute to the overall success of the organisation. She became involved with MAS in 2017, when she was licensed to deliver the Strengthening Personal Resilience and Managers' Role in Resilience programmes. Since then, she has delivered many MAS Resilience programmes, both in-person and remotely, in her role as Training Manager for CPSL Mind, based in Cambridge. In April 2021 Ruth became a freelance trainer and joined MAS to train new licensees to deliver the Resilience programmes. She is keen to promote good mental health and to equip people with the tools to look after their own psychological wellbeing and prevent mental health crises from occurring. She believes that the evidence-based resilience framework developed by Derek Mowbray is a practical tool to help individuals and teams to strengthen their resilience and to promote peak performance. Ruth has been delivering mental health, resilience, parenting and safeguarding training since 2005, in the corporate, education, statutory and voluntary sectors, to both staff and volunteers, including line managers and senior leadership teams.
