UPCYCLED SOUNDS - Key Persons
Charlie is an artist manager and a musician based in Oxford. He joined Upcycled Sounds in late 2020 as Label Manager.
As a manager, he works with a range of early-career artists with a strong focus on artist development through building sustainable careers for his roster. Bringing this ethos to the label, he works closely with all Upcycled Sounds artists to build audiences and help maximise the impact of every release.
Hannah Jacobs (Jakes) is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and electronic musician. She is a director and producer at Upcycled Sounds recording studio and label, in North East London. Her innovative music at the boundaries of pop, sound-art, ambient electronica, jazz and neo-classical has been featured by the likes of Gramophone, Songlines, Spotify, Apple Music, BBC Radio 1, 2, 3 and 6, Classic FM, nonclassical, UNESCO and Bandcamp, and premiered at the Ashmolean Proms. She has had commissions funded by Jazz South, Orchestra of St John's, BBC News, Oxford Contemporary Music, Oxford University Environmental Change Institute, The Centre For Energy Ethics and Arts Council England, and has been part of residencies funded by Britten Pears Arts and Fusion Arts. Currently, she fronts alternative-pop / sound-art duo pecq, composes soundtrack and experimental electro-classical work and produces records for bands.
She is a multi-instrumentalist and singer, playing music from a young age and going on to win an award for the highest Grade 8 piano distinction in her county. From a state school background, she worked hard to achieve a First Class BA Music from Oxford University before taking a break from music to work in roles which combined her interest in the arts and in socio-environmental justice. These included co-founding a sustainable food organisation, founding a feminist folk initiative and becoming a Director of International Music Exchange Programme Ethno England and Tandem Festival.
Nikò is an award-winning sound-engineer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He has recorded everywhere from world class studios to the Himalayas. His portfolio includes numerous albums, EPs, live sessions and soundtracks; sound recording for documentary and feature film, and composing and sound-design for theatre and film. He has worked at the BBC, ITV, RAK Studios and Pinewood Studios, lectured at SAE and built several studios.
He is also an accomplished live sound tech, engineering shows at venues including the Southbank Centre, British Museum, Sheldonian Theatre and EARTH Hackney as well as co-founding two independent venues in Oxford.
His work has been supported by Arts Council England, DPA, Sennheiser, RME and Bubblebee Industries and featured by Audio Media International, Clash Magazine, BBC Radio 1, 3 and 4, BBC 6 Music and even at Paris Music Hack's UNESCO presentation to Herbie Hancock. He's performed at Shambala, WOMAD, La Cigale, Nouveau Casino and been selected for multiple residencies.
He is also Co-Founder and Director for Tandem Collective and Tandem Festival, using arts to create positive social and environmental change.
Nicholas is tri-lingual, growing up in Paris with Italian/English nationality, before moving to the UK.
