Brian Davey has a background in the coal and power sector with more than 30 years experience in the operations, financial, marketing and technology sectors of the industry.

Dr David McManus

Job Titles:

David is a chemical engineer with more than 20 years of experience in industrial R&D, and a passion for translating research into commercial reality. He has held a number of senior executive positions in Australian research organisations throughout his career, most recently as CEO of Nutrifina; a specialist R&D company within the ICM Australia group. David started out in the steel industry but soon moved into biotechnology, where he played a lead role in the development and commercialisation of new bio-processes and bio-products. David has worked closely with university and CSIRO research groups to demonstrate the feasibility of new bio-processes at industrial scale, particularly large-scale fermentation and product recovery. David has held senior positions in two Cooperative Research Centres, the CRC for Industrial Plant Biopolymers and the CRC for Bioproducts. As a member of the executive management team in both CRCs, he was involved in financial management, intellectual property development and technology transfer. He designed and operated a fermentation demonstration facility, and was responsible for managing 16 research projects which involved universities, CSIRO and industry in five sites across three states. Prior to joining BCIA, David was involved in developing new bio-processes and bio-products for a privately-owned agribusiness group. He patented a way to convert pineapple waste into a novel antioxidant-rich dietary fibre product, and developed a new type of microbial biofertiliser to improve crop yields. In both cases, he was actively involved in the commercialisation process. David has specialised in working at the interface between research institutions and industry, demonstrating a skill set essential to the role of Research Investment Manager.

Gerry Morvell

Gerry is a consultant on energy and environment issues and currently advising on a range of renewable energy, low emission technologies and waste management. He was a senior executive in the Australian government where he was responsible for high level policy and program advice to Ministers on a range of issues including environmental assessment, coastal and marine policies, climate change, energy, and sustainable industry development. Gerry has extensive high level experience in Australian and international organisations including work at the United Nations Headquarters. He previously chaired the Boards of Conservation Volunteers in Australia and New Zealand, and Tyre Stewardship Australia.

Kirstyn Krausz

Kirstyn has over 15 years experience in the brown coal industry having worked for a major Victorian power generator and brown coal mine. During Kirstyn's career she has held a number of roles assisting high level management, Board and CEOs and playing a critical part of a team in providing strong organisational and communication skills and a track record in event management. Prior to joining BCIA, Kirstyn worked with the Department of Primary Industries, Energy Technology Innovation Department on the 2012 Low Rank Coal Symposium, working with national and international speakers in the low rank coal industry. Previous to this Kirstyn worked for Loy Yang Power; Victoria's largest power generator with the largest open cut brown coal mine in the southern hemisphere. Kirstyn provided high level support to the Chief Executive for six years prior to moving into the Corporate and Environmental Affairs department in a communications role, assisting the Executive General Manager in managing Loy Yang Power's communications process to develop and facilitate effective and efficient internal and external messaging.
