Adrain Woods

Adrain joined AMIIC in 2021 and serves as the Executive Assistant. She has over 25 years of experience supporting public, private, and non-profit organizations. She will be responsible for the administrative and organizational management of the new AMIIC office in Huntsville, Alabama. Adrain is a skilled business professional with strong administrative support skills developed through experience as an executive assistant and office manager. She excels in resolving employer challenges with innovative solutions, systems and process improvements proven to increase efficiency, customer satisfaction, and the bottom line. Adrain holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Mercer University, Atlanta, Georgia.

Brian Schmidt

Brian Schmidt serves as Laboratory Operations Director for AMIIC. Brian also serves as Senior Project Engineer at the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM). As a technical and manufacturing generalist, he supports project management, procurement, and design activities. Additionally, he has been instrumental in furthering the development of manufacturing energy reduction and sustainability expertise within NCDMM. Brian holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, and a M.B.A. from Seton Hill University.

Genevieve Espy

Genevieve Espy serves as the Director of Workforce Development at AMIIC. She is an experienced Product Development Engineer with previous work in research and development within the Defense Manufacturing industry. Upon graduating from Auburn University in 2015 with a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Genevieve worked with the Manufacturing Technology division of Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center (CCDC AvMC), where she was introduced to the Manufacturing USA Institutes and the benefits of Advanced Manufacturing technology for Aerospace and Defense. She then went on to start the first Advanced Manufacturing Opportunities team at the Cargo Helicopters Program Management Office with the mission of improving the Size, Weight, Power, and Cost (SWAP-C) of the aircraft through innovative means. After moving to Greenville, SC in 2019, she joined the NCDMM project management team in support of new Additive Manufacturing Training programs, uniquely positioning her to support AMIIC's workforce development and training initiatives.

James Faw

James is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) with expected graduation in May 2022. Through collaboration with the Office for Operational Excellence (OOE), he has experience supporting operations in an ISO 9001/AS9100 certified defense manufacturing quality control department. In addition, he has experience with the implementation of lean manufacturing principles for streamlined workplace design and efficiency. James is also a certified Lean Six Sigma green belt.

John Schmitt

John joined AMIIC as its founding Executive Director in April 2021. In this capacity, John is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and operations, providing leadership and direction to the Advisory Board and Board of Directors, working to establish AMIIC as a recognized advanced manufacturing center of excellence in Northern Alabama. Prior to his AMIIC appointment, John contracted with the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) through his consulting firm, Schmitt Consulting Group LLC, working closely with personnel in the NCDMM Huntsville office. In 2019, John retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after more than 20 years of service from a diverse career as a U.S. Army Aviator and Acquisition Corps Officer. He completed two combat tours in Iraq as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot, maintenance test pilot, and company commander. In 2012, John moved to Huntsville, serving as an Acquisition Corps Officer at Redstone Arsenal tasked with the development and delivery of major weapon systems. His assignments in this capacity included the Fixed Wing and Apache Program Offices, the Joint Multi-Role Technical Demonstration office, the Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation and Missile Center, and the Cargo Helicopter Project Office. Within the Huntsville community, John is an active, dynamic, and dedicated participant. He proudly serves on the boards of Little Orange Fish, a community-based mental health nonprofit; GeneCapture, Inc., a biotechnology company; and Rocket City Civil Rights LLC, a nonprofit that seeks to archive, advocate, and assist in social reform rooted in Huntsville's contribution to the Civil Rights Movement. Additionally, John is a founding member of the Inner Defense Initiative, a research collaborative committed to serving victims of post-traumatic stress through biopsychology. He is also a published songwriter and founder of Listen Local Huntsville LLC. Prior to moving to Huntsville, John was an Assistant Professor and Course Director within the Department of Chemistry and Life Science at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. John holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Davis and a M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Mike Docherty

Mike Docherty serves as Director of Programs for AMIIC. He has more than 25 years of DoD Program/Project management experience across all services, including air, ground, naval, and weapons platforms. Mike's focus has been on the transition of advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance military performance, increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve sustainability. By working across the RDT&E, Acquisition, Requirements, and Sustainment communities, Mike has been successful in fielding numerous manufacturing solutions. Mike is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, and an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.
