Alexandra Sharp, RN, BSN, CNRN, is the Director of Admissions. Previously she was a clinical nurse liaison and evaluated patients throughout the United States for admission to Craig. Prior to becoming a liaison, Alex was a nurse on the spinal cord injury floor at Craig Hospital. She has also worked with patients with other chronic neurological conditions and is a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse.

Amy M. Goldstein

Amy M. Goldstein, RPh, BS.Pharm., MS, is the Directory of Pharmacy Services. Amy received her BS in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1988 and M.S. in Hospital Pharmacy Administration in 1992. Amy completed two ASHP Residencies, Pharmacy Practice in 1991 and Advanced Hospital Pharmacy Administration in 1992. In 2011, Amy received an Executive Leadership in Health Care Informatics Certificate from the University of Colorado - Denver. She has been a pharmacist since 1989 and has been the Pharmacy Director since 2002. She also is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Regis University and the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy. In 2014 she was named Outstanding Preceptor of the year by the Skaggs School of Pharmacy. She is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, monitoring and evaluating of the medication use process at Craig Hospital. Amy is a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and Colorado Pharmacist Association.

Andrew Park

Andrew Park, MD, joined the CNS Physicians Group in 2021 and shares his time serving as one of the SCI physicians and research scientists. Dr. Park received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado, and a fellowship in spinal cord medicine at Craig Hospital. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. His clinical and research interests are in early detection and prevention of secondary complications after SCI, spasticity management, and translational biomarker sciences. In his personal time, you'll find Dr. Park with his family enjoying all that Colorado has to offer, including hiking and camping in the summers and skiing in the winters.

Anne has been actively involved in many interdisciplinary committees including Fall, EOC, MUSC and SCI. Anne assumed supervisory responsibilities for Craig's new lab department in February 2020 and is the liaison with SMC for Craig's radiology departments. As the Inpatient Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Anne focuses on the administrative and clinical direction of the inpatient nursing department, as well as lab/phlebotomy and radiology services.

Avery LaFleur

Avery La Fleur, MSW, has been a part of the Craig Hospital family since 2004. After completing his undergraduate degrees at Wartburg College in Waverly, Ia., he moved to Colorado. After several years working in corrections, Avery went on to get his master's degree in social work at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, where his emphasis was in medical social work as well as individual, family and group counseling. He is also a guest professor for the University of Phoenix. Avery provides educational classes at Craig Hospital in the areas of sexuality and romance, discharge planning, and social skills.

Barrett Baker

Barrett Baker is the founder and president of Daniels Petroleum Company. Daniels Petroleum began as an oil and gas land brokerage consulting business in 1984, and has subsequently evolved into an oil and gas exploration company that specializes in prospect generation. Barrett has served on several boards, including the Perfect Drift Fly Fishing Club, and HOA boards in Boulder and Carbondale, Colorado. Barrett and his wife are philanthropically involved in several arts and education institutions, such as the University of Colorado Foundation, Claremont McKenna College and the Clyfford Still Museum, as well as the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. Dr. Ingraham received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Midwestern University in Illinois. He performed his internship at Northwestern McGaw Medical Center in Chicago, IL, then completed his residency at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago and his Fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine also at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.

Brianne Hovey

Brianne Hovey has felt a fond connection to the work of Craig Hospital for most of her life, having known several people who have benefitted greatly from their rehab here. She feels honored to be in a position to give back to an organization that has offered her friends such a profound transformation from injury to healing. As Funds Manager, she coordinates financial management and reporting on funds related to patient assistance and programmatic needs of the hospital. Brianne comes to Craig with 15 years of nonprofit accounting experience. She is a certified yoga teacher and is in school to become a yoga therapist. In her free time, she loves to travel, ride bikes, and be outdoors with her favorite people!

Bruce Schroffel

Bruce Schroffel has worked in healthcare administration for more than 40 years visioning, leading, managing and developing strategies for large, complex academic healthcare organizations. He was raised in Berkeley, California and started his healthcare career in New York at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He served first as an administrator for a community-based center in the South Bronx and then moved into the position of senior associate director for hospital operations. Schroffel was then recruited to the Medical Center at the University of California, San Francisco. In 1997, during the merger of UCSF and Stanford he was named senior vice president for UCSF Medical Center and Mount Zion Hospital. In 2001, he was tapped to lead Stony Brook University Hospital, a 504-bed academic medical center in New York. As Stony Brook's CEO, Schroffel oversaw a cultural and financial turnaround, and a $300 million renovation of the hospital. In January 2006, when the University of Colorado Hospital was enduring difficult challenges, Schroffel became president and CEO and dramatically extended UCH's reach and breadth, raising performance to among the top five percent in the U. In 2012 Schroffel was the architect of a major merger growing UCH to a five hospital, $2.5 billion, 15,000 person enterprise and was named president and chairman. In 2014 he retired from UCHealth. Today he serves as CEO of ElevenP15, a start-up biotech firm developing therapeutics and biomarkers for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Schroffel has consulted in healthcare strategy in the U.S. and China, recruiting executives and coaching physicians and administrators. He is chairman of the Emily Griffith Foundation; is special envoy to and board member of Project C.U.R.E., the world's largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment; has served on the Denver Foundation board; and was on the CoBiz Bank Board. He is currently on the board of the Mental Health Center of Denver and Adams County Food Bank, among others. In 2010 he was named The Denver Post's Business Person of the Year and in 2014 he received the University Medal from the University of Colorado.

Candy Tefertiller

Candy Tefertiller, PT, DPT, PhD, NCS, is the Executive Director of Research and Evaluation and former Director of Physical Therapy. Candy received a B.S in Biology from Mount Olive College in 1997 and a Master's in Physical Therapy from East Carolina University in 2000. Candy has been working in the field of neurological rehabilitation since 2000 and received an assistive technology practitioner (ATP) certification in 2005 and became a certified neurological clinical specialist (NCS) in 2007. Candy then received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Rocky Mountain Health Care University in 2008. She has been involved in numerous research projects and has focused much of her career on interventions and program development promoting recovery after neurologic injury or disease. Eric T. Spier

Eric T. Spier, MD, serves as the Brain Injury Program Medical Director and Outpatient Brain Injury Medical Director at Craig Hospital. He also serves as Neurorehabilitation Consultant at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver, a Level I Trauma Center. Dr. Spier earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed his residency at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven and the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Spier serves as the Medical Director for the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado and also serves as the Medical Director for the Board of Governors of the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists. Erin M. Eiselein

He has additional degrees in engineering and business and is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado. Gerry Lewis-Jenkins

Joan Henneberry spent over 30 years with a career focused on improving access to and quality of health and healthcare at the local, state and national levels. She worked at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for 13 years before she and husband Mark took a detour from Colorado to Washington, DC where she held several positions, including Director of Health Policy, at the National Governors Association. During her tenure at NGA she assisted states with implementation of the state children's health insurance program, and provided consultation and technical assistance to governors and their staffs translating policy goals into operational success. After returning to Colorado, Joan served on the cabinet of Gov. Bill Ritter as the head of the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, the state Medicaid agency, where she led efforts to expand eligibility for Medicaid and implemented various components of the governor's health reform agenda, including the creation of the Center for Improving Value in Healthcare. Joan retired in 2018 after almost seven years as a consultant and Vice President with Health Management Associates, a national healthcare research and consulting firm. Joan serves on the board of the Colorado Visiting Nurses Association and the board of the Denver Health Medical Plan. She has a degree in sociology and secondary education, and a master's degree in management from Regis University.

She received a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University in 2006 and an M.A. in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 2009. Heather was the primary Speech-Language Pathologist at a high school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado from 2009-2010 before taking the opportunity to join the Craig Hospital team. Heather has worked in Inpatient and Outpatient Speech-Language Pathology as well as Outpatient Management at Craig. She served as the 2018 Brain Injury Summit Conference Sponsorship Chair and has led numerous projects and initiatives at Craig including outpatient funding processes and reports, scheduling processes, and growth and quality initiatives.

Jacob Vanderslice

Jandel Allen

Jandel Allen-Davis, MD is the President and CEO of Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado, a world-renowned rehabilitation hospital that exclusively specializes in the neurorehabilitation and research for patients with spinal cord injury and brain injury. Prior to Craig, Dr. Allen-Davis was the Vice President of Government, External Relations and Research for Kaiser Permanente Colorado from 2009-2018. In that role, she led the organization's government relations and regulatory affairs, community relations and community benefit investment, clinical and health services research, stakeholder engagement, communications, and advertising and marketing functions. Dr. Allen-Davis is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and was in active practice for 25 years. A graduate of Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School, Dr. Allen-Davis completed her residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Allen-Davis is an active participant in the community and currently serves on the boards of Denver Botanic Gardens, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, National Jewish Health, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and AdvanceEDU. Dr. Allen-Davis also serves on the Colorado Economic Development Commission and is a Denver Branch Director of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank Board of Governors. Jeffrey C. Berliner, DO, joined the medical staff at Craig Hospital after working as Clinical Director of Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at TIRR Memorial Hermann. He completed his fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine after graduating from residency at Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine in June 2008. He received his medical degree in 2004 at Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Berliner's primary focus is on caring for patients recovering from spinal cord injuries. His clinical and research include current concepts in neurorecovery, treatment of paraplegic and tetraplegic patients, and prevention of secondary complications related to spinal cord injury. He is a member of the American Spinal Cord Injury Membership and Program Committee, Association of Academic Physiatrists, American Academy of Physiatrists, International Spinal Cord Society, and the NeuroRecovery Network Health Committee. Clinical interests include spinal cord injury, dual diagnosis injuries (brain and spinal cord), general rehabilitation, spasticity management and pain management. In Denver in 2015, Dr. Berliner founded the Rehabilitation Service Volunteer Partnership (RSVP), a not-for-profit clinic that provides free compassionate health care for persons with catastrophic injury, and serves as its executive chairman.

Jill Stelley Virden, MS, CTRS, is the Director of Volunteer Services and the Craig Hospital Gift Shop. Jill has a BS from St. Cloud State in St. Cloud, MN, and an MS from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO. Jill began in the Therapeutic Recreation department in 1990 and then was the Volunteer and Gift Shop Coordinator from 2008 until her promotion to Director in 2021. While in the TR department Jill worked in all areas of the program including the SCI team, TBI team and Horticultural Therapy, and conducted a research project related to recreation and patient outcomes. Jill also developed the TBI outpatient program for the TR department. Jill now recruits, trains and places volunteers for Craig Hospital, and is in charge of all aspects of the Gift Shop. Jill is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and a member of Colorado Healthcare Directors of Volunteer Services (CHDVS).

Joan Henneberry

Joan Henneberry spent over 30 years with a career focused on improving access to and quality of health and healthcare at the local, state and national levels. She worked at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for 13 years before she and husband Mark took a detour from Colorado to Washington, DC where she held several positions, including Director of Health Policy, at the National Governors Association. During her tenure at NGA she assisted states with implementation of the state children's health insurance program, and provided consultation and technical assistance to governors and their staffs translating policy goals into operational success. After returning to Colorado, Joan served on the cabinet of Gov. Bill Ritter as the head of the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, the state Medicaid agency, where she led efforts to expand eligibility for Medicaid and implemented various components of the governor's health reform agenda, including the creation of the Center for Improving Value in Healthcare. Joan retired in 2018 after almost seven years as a consultant and Vice President with Health Management Associates, a national healthcare research and consulting firm. Kim Frey, PhD, CCC-SLP, CBIS, is the Director of Speech-Language Pathology and joined Craig in 2013. She received her B.S. in Communication from the University of Tulsa in 1993, her M.S. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1995, and a dual PhD in Cognitive Science and Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2013. For 14 years, she worked in inpatient neurologic rehabilitation and also researched cognitive impairment due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, and viral illness. Subsequently, she became an Instructor in the Neurobehavioral Disorders Program in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. In this program, she served as Director of the Constraint Induced Aphasia Therapy clinic and was also the study coordinator for a double-blind, placebo controlled pharmacologic and cognitive rehabilitation trial for persons with traumatic brain injury. She has presented nationally and internationally and published on several topics including neurobehavioral disorders following stroke, traumatic brain injury, and West Nile virus and also a water protocol for persons with dysphagia related to stroke.

She began her career in spinal cord injury rehabilitation at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY in 2000 until joining the Craig Hospital staff in 2004. She achieved her Assistive Technology Practitioner (ATP) certification in 2007 and became a Board Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS) in 2016. Leigh Ann

Leigh Ann Metscher, LCSW, has worked in the field of medical and psychiatric social work for ten years, including three years in acute care with patients and families with spinal cord injury and brain injury. Leigh Ann joined the Craig Admissions team in January, 2014. Prior to Craig, she worked as a Social Worker in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Denver Health Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center in Denver.

Dr. Butt has worked in the field of Rehabilitation Psychology since beginning at Craig Hospital in 1977 and has served as the Director of Psychology since 1987. Dr. Butt is responsible for direct clinical care and administrative duties. Dr. Butt is Board Certified and is the immediate Past President of the American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology, a specialty within the American Board of Professional Psychology. Additionally, he is the three-time Past President of the American Association of Spinal Cord Injury Psychologists and Social Workers (AASCIPSW) and has served on their Board of Directors for ten years. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association divisions of Rehabilitation Psychology, Psychotherapy, and Trauma Psychology and has served as a Panel Member for the Consortium of Spinal Cord Medicine, Clinical Practice and Consumer Guidelines for Depression and Individuals with Ventilator Dependency. Dr. Butt received a National Institute of Health Mental Health Fellowship, 1968-1972 and is the recipient of the Clinical Performance and Essie Morgan Awards from AASCIPSW. In 2007, he was given the Lifetime Award of Practitioner Excellence by the American Psychological Association's Division of Rehabilitation Psychology. He is on the Editorial Board of NeuroRehabilitation and serves as the reviewer for multiple other publications.

She has specific responsibility for governance, information technology and process innovation, human resources, and legal. Lisa joined Aimco in 2002 as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel. Prior to her role with AIR, Lisa served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary of Aimco. During her tenure, Lisa had increasing levels of responsibilities across the company, serving as a cross-functional leader of the organization. In addition to serving as General Counsel, Lisa has had responsibility for construction services, asset quality and service, insurance, risk management, human resources, dispositions nationwide, and Aimco's acquisition activities in the western region. She has also previously served as chairman of Aimco's investment committee. Prior to joining Aimco, Lisa was engaged in the private practice of law at Hogan & Hartson LLP (now Hogan Lovells), with an emphasis on public and private transactional work, public equity offerings and venture capital financing. She also spent two years as a Federal judicial clerk. Lisa earned her undergraduate degree (with honors and distinction) in public policy from Stanford University and earned her law degree (cum laude) from Harvard Law School and served on the Harvard Law Review, including as managing editor. In addition to serving on the Craig Foundation Board of Trustees, she served as a trustee of the Rose Community Foundation from 2010-2020, including as chairman of the Child and Family Development Committee and member of the Audit and Finance and Gift Acceptance Committees. From 2012 - 2015, Lisa served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Denver Jewish Day School and served on the Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2016. Lisa is a graduate of the Wexner Heritage Program, an intensive two-year program of Jewish leadership and learning, and she is an alumna of the National Young Leadership Cabinet of United Jewish Communities (now Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA)). She has also served as the Chairman of the Legal Committee of JFNA and served on the Bylaws and Governance Committee. Lisa is a past member of the Coordinating Council of the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado (now JEWISHcolorado) and a past board member of Allied Jewish Apartments (now Kavod Senior Life) and Jewish Family Service of Colorado. Lisa is a Denver native and met her husband, Rich, at her first youth group event (they married 15 years later). Rich and Lisa are the proud parents of Avi. Margaret Jones

Margaret Jones, MD, MPH, joined CNS Medical Group in January 2022 after practicing as an attending physician at Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital in Nashville, TN. She was also an assistant professor for the Department of PM&R at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Jones is boarded in physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury medicine and brain injury medicine. Dr. Jones attended medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and then completed her residency at the University of Washington, serving as Chief Resident during her final year. She pursued a fellowship at the Kessler Institute/New Jersey Medical School. She then returned to Seattle to provide care for patients with SCI at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Jones moved to Tennessee to help in the building of the relatively new department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Vanderbilt in 2019. When not at work, she enjoys a number of outside activities including hiking and camping through road trips to the beach and mountains. Many of her outside activities include her two labradoodles, Penny and Copper.

Mark R. Johansen

Mark R. Johansen, MD, has served as Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Program at Craig Hospital since 2011 and has been the Chair of the SCI Program Committee since 2005. He was elected President of the CNS Medical Group in 2013. Dr. Johansen graduated as an MD with honors from the University of Utah School of Medicine and also completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Utah, where he was appointed Chief Resident. He was awarded subspecialty board certification in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Medicine in 2003 and was honored with the American Board of PM&R Outstanding Performance Award. Dr. Johansen is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and has been presented with the Jerome Gersten Clinical Teaching Award multiple times over his tenure. He joined the CNS Medical Group in July 2001 following a subspecialty fellowship program in Neurotrauma Rehabilitation at Craig Hospital. Dr. Johansen has been honored as "Top Doctor" in SCI Medicine by 5280 Magazine numerous times beginning in 2015. He is a member of the American Academy of PM&R, American Spinal Injury Association, and the Academy of SCI Professionals, where has served on several committees. Dr. Johansen has multiple publications and presentations, but has special interest in the clinical management of individuals with catastrophic SCI, as well as more focused interest in pain and spasticity management following SCI and brain injury (BI).

Mary Hewitt, RHIA, is the Director of Health Information Management and Craig's Privacy Officer. Mary received a B.S. from Illinois State University in 1978. She has worked in the field since that time and has been a director at Craig since 2000. Mary is responsible for the planning, organizing and directing the function, services and operations provided by the Health Information Management Department in the maintenance and use of the medical record. She is also responsible for protecting patient's privacy rights and their individually identifiable health information as required by the HIPAA Standards for Privacy. Prior to Craig, Dr. Makley was the Medical Director of a 38-bed specialized brain injury rehabilitation unit at the Kernan Hospital at the University of Maryland. In addition to Dr. Makley's clinical, research and administrative work at Kernan, he was the Co-Director of the Multidisciplinary Spasticity Clinic and led an Outpatient Brain Injury Clinic. He served for many years as Chair of Kernan's Biomedical Ethics Advisory Committee. Morgan Brubaker

She is the Medical Director of the Outpatient Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Rehabilitation Programs. She also serves as a Neurorehabilitation Physician Consultant at Swedish Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center in Englewood, CO. Dr. Brubaker earned her medical degree at Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic. She served as Chief Resident during her final year of residency and was honored with the Earl Elkins Mayo Resident Award for outstanding patient care, teaching and research. She completed her fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at Craig Hospital. She has led both inpatient spinal cord and brain injury treatment teams. She is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. She is working toward Brain Injury Medicine certification. Her clinical interests include managing patients with complex neurologic injuries (brain injury and spinal cord injury), clinical informatics, and quality improvement. When not at Craig, Dr. Brubaker enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. On most days, they can be found outdoors, hiking, exploring and playing at local parks.

Olivia M. Thompson, currently retired, has held a number of positions in various organizations in finance, strategic planning, information technology, and project management. He earned his B.S. in Psychology from Colorado State University in 1988 and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University in 1997. Toby has worked in the field of Rehabilitation Psychology for 20 years and was an Assistant Professor in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado prior to coming to Craig Hospital. He has been involved in numerous research projects in the field of rehabilitation and has presented and published on topics of Rehabilitation Psychology, spinal cord injury, and quality of life. Toby is actively involved in a number of professional organizations including Division 22 (Rehabilitation Psychology) of the American Psychological Association and the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals, where he has served as the president of the Psychology, Social Work, and Counselor section and is a member of the organization's governance board of directors. William "Bill" Scelza

William "Bill" Scelza, MD, joined the CNS Medical Group and Craig Hospital in 2011 and is the Medical Director of Craig Hospital. He has also served as the Craig Hospital Outpatient Department Medical Director. Dr. Scelza is also Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and as the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Medicine Fellowship Program Director at Craig Hospital/University of Colorado. Prior to joining CNS Medical Group, Dr. Scelza was Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Program at Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, N.C. Dr. Scelza completed his medical training at Case Western University in 1998. He then went on to his residency training in PM&R at the University of Michigan followed by a Fellowship in SCI Medicine at the Kessler Institute in 2002-2003. He holds board certifications in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and remains active with numerous professional organizations within those fields. Dr. Scelza has a wealth of personal and professional spinal cord injury experience, having lived with paraplegia since 1988. He is active with his family, recreation, and aging with spinal cord injury and disability advocacy.
