The Chirik Group is led by Principal Investigator, Paul Chirik. Our research team comprises a group of exceptional post-doctoral associates and fellows, graduate students, and undergraduates... Based in the Frick Chemistry Laboratory at Princeton University, the Chirik Group conducts research in two primary areas of interest: Catalysis with Earth-abundant transition metals and N 2 functionalization and weak-bond formation... We are focused on catalysts based on Earth-abundant transition elements like iron, cobalt, nickel, and most recently molybdenum, which allow for potentially less expensive and more sustainable chemistry. Our primary goal is not simply to replace existing catalysts but to discover new reaction chemistry that can fully exploit the unique electronic structures of these abundant and inexpensive metals. Applications of our catalysts range from the pharmaceutical, flavor, and fragrance to commodity chemical industries.
