The Dartford Inn was built in 1949 and featured in the April 1952 issue of Progressive Architecture. The log cabin style motel is set back on five wooded acres on the Puchyan River. With the end of WWII Green Lake prepared to return to tourism. During the war the last of the wood hotels fell to fire or disrepair. Local businessman J. Harold Bumbe saw the need to provide modern lodging for area tourists. In planning and design the Dartford would be a masterpiece of what was then known as a Motor Court. Legend has it that Bumbe called the architect and ask him what he could do with 4,000 utility poles. Bumbe owned a company that supplied the power companies with poles and when they changed over to cedar poles he was left with the white pine poles. Over the years there have been five owners, each bringing change and improvements to the property... Green Lake is a special place to visit or live. The lake is the deepest inland lake in the state. Visitors come from all over the world to..
