Job Titles:
  • Director
  • Founder
Yuka O'Shannessy is the founder and director of Public Record. Yuka believes in intentional living and creating a world that is refined, considered and one of quiet beauty. Yuka has a unique creative sensibility that is forged from growing up in Japan in an environment that celebrates artisanal mastery. Coming to Aotearoa, New Zealand and pursuing her studies in fashion allowed Yuka to bring that aesthetic to the world of New Zealand makers and artists. Yuka was the co-founder and creative director of Astute Assembly from 2013 to 2020. Astute Assembly provided Yuka with an immersive environment to experiment with her evolving creative vision, through original pieces of homeware, clothing and art. Yuka also works as a practitioner for her own label, Yuka&Tristan. As well as representing Japanese artists and craftspeople in New Zealand, Yuka has actively worked with New Zealand artists and craftspeople to profile their work to new audiences in Japan. She has also facilitated cultural and creative workshops such as Kintsugi, Ikebana and Japanese cuisine Omotenashi workshops and holding events in both Japan and New Zealand as a way of fostering a deeper appreciation of the craft history of each country.
