After leaving university Matt enjoyed a varied career in sales, marketing, charity fundraising and producing for the British movie industry which included attempting to turn Hartlepool into the fictional town of Wombatville. It was after an afternoon of auditioning Roly Poly dancers gyrating to Gazza's "Fog On The Tyne" that Matt decided it was time to turn his passion of wine into a career. After working for two well-respected wine merchants Matt wanted to take wine retail to the next level and The Smiling Grape Company opened its doors in 2008.
