The Apsley Paper Trail is a charitable trust founded in 1999 to conserve the unique industrial heritage of Frogmore Paper Mill and the site at Apsley Mills, Hemel Hempstead... Renting office space from the Apsley Paper Trail Trust is to be part of the important history and culture of the Gade River Valley where Apsley and Hemel Hempstead are located. Being the buildings that once housed the thriving local paper industry, our offices are far from bland and anonymous. Paper is to Apsley what steel is to Sheffield, or lace to Nottingham. Our rooms are the same rooms that local paper tycoon John Dickinson worked from, where John Dickinson & Co. grew to international fame and The British Paper Company was housed. In 1803 the first ever mechanised paper machine, the "Fourdrinier", was installed at Frogmore Paper Mill in Apsley, and John Dickinson's Cylinder Mould Machine was developed and installed at Apsley Mills in 1809.
