FIRST AVENUE DENTAL - Key Persons

Dr. Alison Phillips was born and raised in Regina and attended the University of Regina where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Following this, she moved to Saskatoon to attend the College of Dentistry at the University of Saskatchewan, where she graduated with her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Dr. Phillips is currently a member of the Canadian Dental Association and the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan. In her spare time, Dr. Phillips enjoys staying active through running and traveling, tackling amateur art projects, and spending time with family and friends at the lake during the summer. Dr. Derek Thiessen was born and raised up on a mixed grain and cattle farm a few minutes south of Swift Current. He graduated from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School in 2007 and moved to Saskatoon to pursue his university education. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College Of Dentistry in 2013 and has been practicing dentistry in Swift Current since. Dr. Thiessen is married to his lovely wife Jillian and they have three children, two boys, and a little girl. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, coaching minor hockey, woodworking, helping on the family farm, playing trumpet, and traveling. Recently Dr. Thiessen joined the part-time faculty at the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry where he supervises and educates third and fourth-year dental students. Dr. Thiessen is currently the President of the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan. He has served as Chair for several CDSS committees including the Advertising Review, Finance, Governance, and Quality Assurance committees. He is also the former president of the Southwest Dental Society. Dr. Thiessen is a member of the Canadian Dental Association, a Pre-Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, an associate member of the International Association for Orthodontics, and is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Thiessen's favorite dental procedures are wisdom tooth extractions and implant placements with IV sedation.
