Ted is the President of Gateway Housing. Prior to Gateway, Ted served as Executive Deputy Commissioner of New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), overseeing the State's housing and community renewal agencies, including the NYS Housing Finance Agency, Housing Trust Fund Corporation, Affordable Housing Corporation, Division of Housing and Community Renewal, and the State of New York Mortgage Agency. Previously, Mr. Houghton led the Supportive Housing Network of New York, a member organization of over 200 nonprofit supportive housing providers and developers operating more than 50,000 supportive housing apartments across the state. Ted has also been a writer and policy adviser to government, foundations and nonprofit organizations on housing, mental health, employment and homelessness, and worked for the New York City Department of Homeless Services and the Coalition for the Homeless.

Valley Lodge

Valley Lodge / WSFSSH at West 108: Gateway has worked with West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing to redevelop their Valley Lodge shelter for homeless seniors into a mixed use residence with transitional housing and permanent affordable and supportive housing and community services onsite. The project closed financing last year and construction is underway to build 110 shelter beds, 198 affordable permanent housing units (including 119 supportive housing apartments), and community facilities that include a healthcare center, office space for a local nonprofit, and new comfort stations for the adjacent playground.
